It's the grey area of when he would be expected to deliver the ball that causes the issue. My view was that if he had bowled the ball Buttler would still have been in the crease, the umpire thought otherwise
According to the law you have to stay in until the time when the ball would be released (is ball roughly above shoulder level) so it is a routine Mankad, nothing grey about it. Can’t stand it myself but hey

When you see it Ashwin had to wait for him to leave the crease, which to me just doesn't seem right. By the time he'd have delivered the ball had he gone on to do so, I believe Butler would have been in.
Why is this different from cases where the wicketkeeper whips off the bails, as the batter slightly overbalances and lets his foot drag out for a split second? The batsman is not attempting a run, yet in those cases, the keeper is applauded for quick hands.
