Spray paint and lacquer to use?
« on: December 20, 2018, 04:36:01 PM »

Okay have some SS test openers on order but already don't like red on them and have toyed with the idea of spray painting the badges on the shin and side of the pad white.

And then spraying some lacquer over them?

I know a few people have spray painted pads here. Any specific type of spray you have used or recommend?

Ah. Plenty of vendors for that type of thing though. Seems a shame to butcher new pads if you don’t like them :)

If you have any recommendations in that price range please point me in that direction... I'm well into the swing of returning items  :D

You can’t go wrong with the plain white ones from OLS
I’ve just bought my 2nd pair along with 2 pairs of plain white sausage fingers
Used them both last season

I've used PLASIDIP   Matt spray  doesn't chip or crack when the ball hits the pads

Howzat!

This is the most natural looking finish, other brands of paint can leave your pads looking yellowy...

Gone down the OLS route...

Still waiting for the SS Test Openers to arrive... but will be going straight back!

Okay got the SS Test Openers... and I do like them... :)

Have the unbranded pads from OLS on order... so waiting for them to arrive. Will end up keeping one or other. Anyone had both and your thoughts?

I wonder what the quality difference will be. I assume the SS Test Opener will be better quality - they are renowned for their lightweight for top quality protection.

Yorkershire- have you weighed the SS pads (they advertise around 810gmswhich is very light for traditional cane pads).

Choices, choices...

Best wishes,

David

Not weighed but can do. So plan to return them and if I don't like the OLS ones I will buy an SS pad with no red.... 😄

SS Test Opener pads would have been better if they came with padded straps, considering they are top of the line from SS.

Yes that did surprise me... as I was expecting that, but the quality of the pad is evident and in terms of materials and feel than my BAS Players pads. Right let me go and weight them!
