Bowler you would least like to face
« on: December 26, 2018, 08:11:51 PM »

With Dale Steyn moving to the top of SA's test wicket takers list, it got me thinking about the fast bowlers of recent times I would least like to face (I have faced a number during my time of overseas who bowl spin who make you look stupid but don't carry that element of pyhical danger).  I can't recall seeing a better bowler against the tail than Steyn at his peak because his skiddy bouncers carried a physical threat which made tail enders camp on the back foot then have their stumps cleaned up by the full ball..

The only one I would put up there is Mitchell Johnson because his action made it so difficult to pick up the length.  I had a go a couple of years ago facing the Bola Trueman machine programmed to replicate Johnson's action and it was terrifying how little clues as to his length you could get from his action

Jofra Archer would be scary to face, has a serious bouncer and release point is so high plus the fact he is rapid.

Club wise there is a lad who plays in the EAPL in east Anglia who is about 5ft 6 ish and about 80mph, short and skiddy and wicked inswing and terrifying bouncer, floored me and went for 6 off the top of the handle of my bat 3/4 seasons ago, genuine fear for the only time in my adult career
