Non leather palms?
« on: January 15, 2019, 05:25:37 AM »

Are there any brands out there making palms from any other material besides leather that are of decent quality?

I looked at alternative options back in 2006 and the wear and tear of the palms on a rubber grip shredded any alternative we trialled. This is why golf, cycling and cricket al use a leather plan for longevity and sustained grip once sweaty.

Can you explain further with what you mean regarding 'how long it lasts and the way it dries'? Do you mean, that it goes hard after being wet? If so, have you tried Pittards Leather Palms, as this material has properties which absorb the sweat and still remain soft and supple for a long time.

I havent tried pittards yet. I had no idea they existed until you told me. Even tho its leather id give it a go if they lasted longer than one season. Thanks ayrtek for the reply! Very interesting nothing else worked. Are there any good all cotton palm gloves out there? The animals these gloves come from would get treated like complete schitt im guessing.

cotton palms are used on the very cheap entry level junior gloves. Pittards is specially treated when manufactured for the purpose of being used in glove palms and the wear and tear it has to absorb.

Perhaps even worse than the humans involved invoved in cotton harvesting and production?

Having said that, I don"t suppose there is very much ethical in the world of cricket softs manufaccturing.

Not sure it's wanna take a ball at any pace in these tho!

I am amazed that they sell those in adult sizes.  I remember my first slazenger 100 junior gloves having cotton palms and very basic protection levels but I was an under 11 at the time and the bowling was modest pace wise.  I wouldn't want to play senior cricket at any level with that sort of protection
