This seasons draw takes place shortly, is anyone on here in it?

Ive played in the comp before as a guest player back when you were allowed them but have just entered my current club for the first time

I�ve played in it, it�s superb. My current club doesn�t apply but the drive of the competition I love

I played in it for a few years for a club but that club found that each year less of its �better� players wanted to be available. Ended up dying as a competition of interest because the games were just an xi would could be available and so you�d win a couple, come up against a side taking it seriously and get beaten.

Just a competitive Sunday competition really. Few local clubs usually get a few rounds in then it�s just luck on the day. My club doesn�t qualify as a village but sadly we wouldn�t be able to get many 1xi out so it�d be pointless anyway

I see there are only 4 teams in the whole Scotland section, wouldnt want an away draw up there

We've been drawn a home game against a side a couple of divisions below our 1st XI for the opening round. Hopefully we get through a few rounds this year

Can you guys just clarify something for me, having never played in the tournament before but always been an interested bystander, so just had a breeze through the draw.

How are Datchet and Aston Rowant in the competition when they play in the Home Counties Premier League?

I thought there was a cut off for level of cricket as well as the obvious you must be a village?

There is no standard restriction now, you just have to meet the criteria for being a 'village' which I think is done on a maximum population basis.

All players must now be registered for the club in league cricket aswell, where is the past you could have more than 1 guest player and there is also some sort of restriction on overseas players

I can imagine there are lot of the bigger teams but obviously still in a 'village' in terms of population that may enter.

Or do they enter into the National Club Championship?

The clubs that meet the village criteria then get the choice i suppose?

There are many �village� clubs who are actually very well �run� (funded) who enter. It�s a competition at the end of the day, if you prefer competitive to friendly Sunday�s enter it but don�t complain when some bank rolled team steam rollers you in the hunt for glory.

I found nothing wrong with it as a competition from the 4-5 years I played.. just like playing a league game only against some teams you might not normally play. The premier teams (assuming they get players out) generally win out.

Im not sure when it happened but yes there used to be a restriction

Like you say, my club is just 1 division below ECB Prem but our location is probably less than a village. More a sprawling hamlet!

I would say the National Club Championship is almost certainly a higher standard from start to finish as all Town and City clubs are eligible. Dont think we would bother entering that one!

It's interesting because the National Club Championship draw has been made as well and there are a number of teams that have entered both! including Aston Rowant.

The 1st rounds are on the same day - Sunday 28th April. That is very brave committing to getting 2 Sunday sides of that strength out surely?

Or you look at which you stand the best chance of winning and pack that side ? Also, if one of those is against a weak side you could send a seconds so to speak and still win

There is a 2 weekend window for each round in the village cup, if both sides agree

So they could technically field a first XI for the duration of both competitions on alternate weekends

But yes a huge committment and could be lots of travel if they progress in both
