Your 2019 Goals/Aims
« on: March 03, 2019, 08:26:55 PM »

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls: the cricket season is almost upon us!

Last season's thread had plenty of responses, so why not do it again!

Doesn't just have to be batting & bowling targets. Can be fielding, team goals or just pure enjoyment ones!

Feel free to be as brief or as descriptive as you want.

I'll kick it off:

Batting

Saturday: 400 Runs. 3 or more Half-Centuries.

I more than exceeded my expectations last year (scored my 1st hundred!) so this season i'll be looking to improve again. We have 16 games this season and 400 runs is usually the benchmark to get into the top 5 for the Division averages, so that's what i'll be aiming for this year! I would like to score another ton, but more realistically i want to contribute to winning causes more this year as we're missing our best batsman from last season as he's travelling! After starting last season batting 8 and barely bowling, i ended up batting 3 towards the end of the year so would like to carry on either there or at 4.

Sunday: Average 30+

I've rejoined my old Sunday team this season (couldn't play last year due to registration rules which have now changed.) 3 years ago when i started playing cricket this was the first team i ever played for and obviously i was abysmal! Looking forward to seeing how club members who haven't seen me since react to my improvement, our vice skipper/ president opens the batting and is championing the idea of me batting 3/4 like i do for my Saturday side. We only have 12 games this year and i have no idea how many i'll be around for, so not going to set myself a run target. I'd like an average of 30, there's some great tracks and some questionable bowling in the league so you never know!

Bowling

Last year was weird from a bowling perspective, i started the year as an off-spinner, and ended up reverting back to medium pace which bought me a few wickets at the end of the year. I've sorted out my run up this winter, so hopefully will be ok when the season starts to bowl if called upon! Not really fussed how often i bowl now that i bat top order, but would quite like to be reliable enough to bowl a 10 over spell if my skipper needs it. On a Sunday i very much doubt i'll bowl as it's a development side and so pretty much everyone is capable of bowling, so i'm more than content to stand at slip all day!

Fielding

Last year i had by far the best season i've had in the field. Took about 15 catches, pretty much all at Gully. Made it my own position this season by not dropping a single catch in there! the one i did drop all year was at long on. Hoping to continue fielding at gully and take another 10+ catches.

As we're promoted, hope to play major part in the bowling department, scoring as much possible in the last 10 overs, didn't took 1 catch last season, nothing came to me 😀, fielding cover, point, long on, long off, deep mid wicket, deep square leg areas, but most important will be for the team to perform well to stay in this league

My goals for 2019:
  • Play as much cricket as I can with my mates
  • Enjoy all the cricket I play, regardless or result or personal performance
  • When skipper make sure everyone gets a game/enjoys their day
  • Try not to break any fingers this season!

as this is my first chance of a full season since 2010, just be able to play a full season - expecting to be put in one of my clubs lower teams this year, so really just enjoy playing and stay out of the way of the chairman at my club - who as i voted for someone else as 3rd team captain seems to have now taken a real dislike to me :)

Pretty much the same as this except my first full season since 2003! also, I've not pissed off my Chairman....yet.

Promotion achieved again for this season so standard should/could be higher. Aiming for 500 league runs and 2 hundreds with ideally a Daddy Ton (150+) keep getting between 105 & 120. Avg above 50

Keeping wise 20+ catches and 5 stumpings is my normal aims.
Overall enjoy my cricket

Not been in the UK for a proper summer since 2013 so i want to try and play as many games as i can. I'm in the UK for 9 weeks so realistically between the free Saturdays and Sundays i will get 5/6 games at a massive push and if the wife is understanding enough. I just want to not get myself out playing stupid shots and prove to myself that i can still play a bit.

Fingers crossed.

PS - I'll be splitting some of my time between Bristol and Heacham (west Norfolk) if anyone needs a player when i can't play for my other teams in Herts/Reading. I'm rubbish (3rd/4th team level) but i'm nice and run around a lot!

Primary goal with Ansty is promotion back to Div2. With the team we had last season we shouldn't have been relegated but injuries and some horrendous collapses saw us down.

Personal goals are to not be in contention for the duck trophy! I'm aiming for 200 league runs (with a 50) and 25-30 wickets with a first Ansty 5fer. We are playing 40/40 win lose all season so should suit me with players having to attack. Fielding I'd like to match last season, only one drop in the league and 11 catches so aiming for 10 catches and no drops.

Sundays I'm aiming to play as much as possible, get a couple of 50s and a 100.

On top, I want to rediscover my form that saw me put up for Sussex trials by Uni and told to go for Bucks by our overseas. I lost confidence after a netting injury and with inconsistent training never got back to that level last season. I've had a couple of lean seasons with the bat so want to prove to myself what I can do.

Main goal for me will be get my hands on our batting trophy (best runs x avg) as I missed out on it last season despite being leading run scorer, so more consistency is the aim - too many cheap dismissals last year. Secondary to that and possibly a bit of a pipe dream... I'm after a double ton.

I'd like to bowl more after getting pressed into service as emergency keeper a lot last season, found it hard to get into rhythm the past couple of seasons.

2019 sees me join a new club after 18 years. So main aim is to integrate well into the club and become a valued team member.

Second aim is to score as many runs as I can - a higher division for me than last season so aiming for 350 league runs as a min as well as enjoying my cricket

Implement what I've learnt in the 1 to 1 coaching sessions... basically be consistent... play most of my shots  along the floor... try and get 3 50s at the very least...

Saturdays same as last year pretty much! be involved and eek out as much extra runs/wickets/points as poss

Sundays will be a different challenge as my first season as a captain so just wanting to enjoy it and try to ensure everyone gets a go, without losing my own form!

My second child is being born in 6 weeks time, so maybe my target should just be to play as much as responsibilities will allow! With that, last season’s promotion and my general lack of skill in mind, I think my aim is to increase my percentage of not outs (I’ve stood down as opener and moved into the middle order which should help), a couple of 50s and improvement on last season’s average and I’ll be happy.
