Looking for an old skool bat profile- new one? best of the oldies?

I have come back to cricket after 30 year absence and played about 10 games last season and a few indoor games this winter.
I have been using a pretty chunky Kookaburra bat that I bought off a guy at work and I'm starting to think it's not right for me. I have gotten out twice playing a mis-timed leg glance and had the ball hit the thick top edge and go straight up in the air to be caught. The chunkiness of the bat is great for drives but I don't really hit that many. When I score runs, they are normally off leg glances, pull shots, square cuts.
I would like to try another bat with a more traditional thin tapered edges (Gower style Powerspot maybe?) and concentrate on a bit of finesse in my old age rather than knocking it out of the park (never happened).
What new bats should I look at with this profile?
What are the best older bats to try to find a good example of? Can a vintage bat off ebay still be a weekly player?
Maybe one from the 90s?
I don't have a crazy budge, £150 at most.
Your knowledge much appreciated.

I've just had an old Hunts county reflex bat refurbished by Hunts themselves, since they don't do the reflex stickers any more I've had the Insignia stickers put on. nice sleek bat with plenty of life let in it.

Other than that, Have a look for the Scoop Gray nicolls, that may be what you're looking for.

I have an old Kookaburra that I refurbished but haven’t got round to listing anywhere as I thought the old school profile would put people off. Can’t put any pics up as they seem to be on my old phone, but can show you if you’re interested.

Ebay. You can also find vintage bats in the For Sale section of this forum.

Since you are finding your way back to cricket after a long hiatus, my suggestion would be to try out different bats before you spend a lot of money. There are certain shapes and weights (or weight) that will function better with your strength and conditioning now then they did earlier in your cricket career. Having said that, I do recommend trying some newer shapes as well as bat making has come a long way and even bats with thin edges pack a lot of punch.

I think I will be looking at buying a few second hand bats this season and go from there.

@strang if you wanted to go new, Gm diamond sounds ideal, in budget at £130 posted, or if you fancy spending a bit more then powerspot is another that meets your criteria

you need 150 (i think) good quality posts to access this section.

There are some good deals on new bats GM signatures for example!

I saw a blank bat last night and it was a terrific traditional bat with a weight of 2lb 8oz. Loved it! I think TK should be able to fix you one if you want something really traditional.

I play much the same leg glance pull hook square cut maybe  a thin edge light bat bat would be more suitable for you also           ( think bat speed)
