With all this chatter about stealing yards, mankads, and players being run out by a matter of inches. Why don't players use a longer bat?

The regular bat length is just over 33 inches, whereas the laws allow 38 inches. What's to stop a brand introducing either an extendable or longer bat for use at the non-strikers end? Appendix B of the laws allows for up to 10% of the handle to be made from other materials, so it should be possible to build a spring loaded mechanism to extend the handle so it wouldn't affect general gameplay.

I think it was being suggested that they activate the spring-loaded telescopic handle mechanism. But I may have misunderstood.

No need to overcomplicate things. Just have a long handle, and hold it several inches from the end of the handle when batting, like Alistair Cook. I'm sure he would have held it at the end when running between wickets.

Potentially this device could be just shy of 22 yards long when fully extended, thus eliminating the need for running altogether. This would definitely appeal to modern kids and would generate new interest in the game. Runs couls be known as something else, just like sixes has become known as 'maximums'.

Batsmen could have different handles for 'red ball cricket' and 'white ball cricket'. CBFers would be able to notify B3 of their personal prefered length, density and extendability...

Interesting idea.
I think you are not really aiming high enough though. I would like to see someone design a bat that could double as a pogo stick.
I would definitely use one. May even give up the car and ride it to games.
