Tk and JM ...
« on: March 30, 2019, 09:05:30 PM »

I've promised myself my next bat will be a TK (probably next season now) due the positive remarks on here... although just recent post by in the stickers thread with a screaming cat got me thinking.

Do people rate TK above JM. As JM doesn't make bats now I noticed a recent Facebook post where Laver and Wood were making JM screaming cat shapes... anyone any experience of these?

Yes they are rare as hens teeth to find now, still rate mine as the best bat I’ve ever used but the handle shape and profile just suited my batting style. Tim also makes a superb bat and both trainer under the same master batmaker I thought?

I never used a JM but knew someone who had two made by JM. People who did use the his second JM bat raved about it.

As a batsman, and someone who collects nice bats (for use), I think you need to balance out time/money equation in favor of value of the bat. Even though JM bats are highly sought after, I'd never pursue one simply because it will take too much time (and possibly money) to acquire one. Also, I wouldn't find one suitable or close to my specs.

On the other hand, [edit]TM  TK are easy to acquire and pricepoint is very favorable . I have owned and used a lot of bats by different brands and for the value (price, quality, ping consistency), [edit]TMs TKs are fantastic!

Yes I wouldn't pursue a Millichamp... as @InternalTraining totally agree with you... was more interested if anyone had used a clone made by James Laver...?

Btw @InternalTraining who is TM? Tim Millichamp ? One hell of a bat maker  ;)

If Laver made JM shape, it wood still be Laver only right. So really you are asking to compare TK and Laver and i guess Tk is a no brainer here..

I have four Screaming Cats, and I absolutely love them but I am too afraid to use them for some reason even though I have back up.

I feel what makes JM a lot more special is how IT said, they are sought after.

I remember calling JM last year when he was on a canoe, told him that I admire him and his craft, asked him if he had any around his house, sadly non!!

I would think,
Using scat cats sounds better than having them, enjoying them,
especially you've got 4 of them

I had a Laver in the Millichamp shape, nice enough bat but wasn't that big a fan of the shape, sold it quite recently.

You and @AJ2014 are wise blokes, certainly.

"Can't take them with you..."

Needed to hear those words.

Does anyone know when JM stopped making the Puma bats?
Who took over before going to Indian makers?

Not sure when Jules pulled the pin at Puma, maybe late 90’s. Sam Miller (Chase, Masuri) took over arranging production .

I believe Rob Pack was making them for a while too, then Rob made top end ones while the lower end came from India and then finally all moved elsewhere...
