I'm looking to get a new bat, mine's rubbish but it's all I could afford at the time. Fed up with it now though!

The reviews for Red Ink bats look great, my budget still isn't high though so I was wondering what the difference between x3 and x2 was?

I've heard people say before that willow grade is pretty much just a cosmetic thing and the performance is based on the pressing and skill of the bat-maker. John seems like one of the best so I imagine the x3's are still pretty awesome.

I play a good standard so I want a decent bat, I cant really afford to go over 200/210 though cause unfortunately I'm not the most well-off cricketer you're likely to meet.

Anyone who's got experience with the bats who has some advice would be most welcome!

Yes, contact John before people start shouting GM Signature at you. He's a nice guy and the sort of independent batmaker we should be supporting. I'm sure he'd make you something very decent at an affordable
price.

I press each cleft to get the most out of each one so buying a lower grade doesn�t mean an inferior product, just one that suits you budget. Drop me a pm and we can discuss options for you

I�ve had a couple of clefts from John - both really well pressed and, aesthetically at least, very well graded.

there shouldn't be much difference in the rebound between grades 2 3 4 if the blades have been pressed for optimum performance as you say grading in the first instance is based on cosmetics.
IMO you won't do better than Red Ink.

I�ve got an X3 from Jonny and the performance is very good. It was excellent value and beautifully finished. I�d strongly recommend his bats

It's 1st quality of willow
2nd pressing
Best way to find this out is to buy from the same manufacturer top grade to grade 4 and see the difference

You're talking about a large manufacturer not a boutique brand.

Massive difference between production made and a smaller setup where the same batmaker makes all the bats that leave the workshop.

Couldn�t agree more, the smaller/notifiers brands make sure their pressing is spot on as they need to ensure quality through all of the bats and not just the �top grades� as they can�t afford to produce any rubbish

Just wanted to chime in and say that John makes some amazing bats. Over the winter, I reached out to him to order a couple of bats and it was an absolute pleasure working with him. I am based out of the US but John was very patient with me to get my requirements and sent over 2 sticks that are exactly what I wanted. You can't go wrong with John.

After having a few bats directly and indirectly off John @Red Ink Cricket I can confirm that he deserves all the positive feedback he has received on the forum. He is very patient, understands the requirements and then make bats that match the specs. Most of my bat profiles are a bit unconventional but he has always managed to give me what I had asked for.
