Going From A Heavy Bat To A Lighter Bat
« on: June 10, 2019, 02:38:44 AM »

Folks,

Here is my dilemma: I use a 2-11 bat and lately, I have been thinking about using a lighter 2-10 or 2-9 bat.

Have you made such a shift? If you did make a shift, was your timing affected? Did you lose or gain shots? I am predominantly a on/leg side batsman, very much in the mold of Cook. Clearing the rope is not a problem for me but to do that on the long-off or extra-cover, I need quite a lot of pace. So, why do I want to move to a lighter bat? Because I want to add more power to my off-side shots and with my 2-11, I can only play check drives or dabs. Full blooded shots in the covers are rare and square cuts/up-and-overs are mere dabs. I am thinking with a lighter bat, I'd increase my scoring options on the off side.

Without doubt  with a lighter bat your range of shots will increase so will your bat speed as for timing it takes a couple of innings   but the real benefit is a light bat gives more icontrol  of the shot

Agree, try 2.9lb to feel real difference

Dropping down weight is fine, but you will need to practice, it might take about an hour or two in a net to get used to it, or it might take 5 mins.

The thing to remember is that with a lighter bat you can lose your shape a bit on front foot shots where the heavier bat will pendulum through the line for you.

An oz down isn't that noticeable in my experience it depends on the middle position of the bat too...

i tried going from 2.14 to 2.9 for the exact same reason.. didnt work so well for me as i simply couldnt get used to it even after a month of so of pre season. so i ditched the light one and went back to the heavy stick. an ounce or so might not be be a big deal but be prepared to have some patience
