What the frig is going on?!
« on: June 14, 2019, 02:33:51 PM »

So I have a Kookaburra ghost 500 I bought 2 seasons ago. Despite the fact it has seen plenty of cricket and nets and been knocked in, the dents the ball makes on the bat, particularly on the edge, are massive. To an alarming extent. It's a big bat for the weight so I assume the willow is pretty dry or something. After each season I've sanded it down, re-oiled and cared for it but after one net it looks like I've been trying to knock in stumps with it!

Is this just what bats are like now to maximise the performance? Can anybody recommend a bat maker whose bats aren't 1 season disposable?!

That's something to expect with big bats that are light weight.

There are quite a few bat makers that make bats that last more than a season. They may not be big bats but they will ping nicely. Since your bat(s) see a lot of action in games and nets, getting one prepared should be easy. Try a Keeley.

I  brought a brand GN  Legend  it's this seasons  and made at Robertsbridge  which is lightweight dispite  rounding the edges knocking in after every match and waxing the edge dents massive due to the edges being soft even tapping with a mallet leaves indentations as it was expensive considering stopping using it

Can really recommend GM if you want a bat that performs and also seems to last well, I have a couple that are now into there 3rd season and after some TLC look brand new again each year and none have any cracks to talk about, yes they can take a little while to reach peak, peak performance but the middles go from ball 1.

Nothing will last if your not interested in protecting them with a sleeve, especially high end bats.
