Never mind the World Cup, England Lions play on Sunday!
« on: July 12, 2019, 11:04:42 AM »

This has obviously gone a bit under the radar, but there's some interesting selections in the Lions squad - first go for Sibley/Crawley/Bracey, no Burns/Denly. Disappointed at no Jamie Overton. Might Curran bat 6?
4 day game vs Aus A starting Sunday, imagine one or two of them will be annoyed to miss watching the final!

Squad: Lewis Gregory (Somerset), James Bracey (Gloucestershire), Zak Crawley (Kent), Sam Curran (Surrey), Ben Foakes (Surrey), Sam Hain (Warwickshire), Jack Leach (Somerset), Sam Northeast (Hampshire), Jamie Porter (Essex), Ollie Robinson (Sussex), Dom Sibley (Warwickshire)

With the form Northeast has been in this season it wouldn't surprise me if he got a go at mixing the drinks for the Test squad this summer!

This game is so pointless for players who have already played test cricket

Is it? Or are you just annoyed that two Surrey players have been picked?

cant see any reason why players who have played tests should not play in these games.

they rarely play an older player who has played because an up an coming potential test or one day guy would be a better bet-that's obvious

Faokes and Leach,Porter,Sibley and Northeast even could still play.Northeast maybe has not fulfilled his potential but is still a good player.

Foakes is mighty unfortunate not to be our first pick keeper batsman in the full test side. If theres a gap in the full squad a Lions player should be high on the list to step in

This doesn't tell the whole story for though..... for the guys saying about test players having a go, Curran wouldn't be playing if Saqib Mahmood was fit and they need to look at Leach because he isn't 1st pick as the spinner - sort of the same scenario for Foakes.

If either of them do really well then they press for starting places which changes the dynamic/make up of the team we finished with in WI and usually play at home.

I find it interesting that Gregory has been chosen as skipper rather than Northeast, that is definitely a nod for him.

Due to the injuries in seems that will actually be the 11 as well - with an order something like -

Sibley, Crawley, Northeast, Hain, Bracey, Foakes, Curran, Gregory, Leach, Porter, Robinson

England Lions should demand equal pay. #EqualPay.

Totally agree.

Bearing in mind there’s only 3 Aussies out of their squad of 15 who haven’t got a test cap, and their test skipper is playing, I’d say you’d need a bit of strength.

Also they’ve changed the team name from Australia A to Australia XI.

So after all the medium dob not getting the Lions anywhere yesterday while noone was looking, Curran timed a good spell well today. Then Ben Foakes batted at 3, which is a distressing sight to all of us who think he should be England's keeper! Sibley struck an early but not final blow in the battle for an Ashes opening spot with 74.

Test squad gets named on Wednesday with several players apparently set to be rested - how many from this game could make it?

Hard to believe anyone will be rested, Ali you would think back as a spinner and I live in hope still we will play the best keeper in the Country with Bairstow in the middle order.

Roy to open and the rest pretty much as it was from the last test.
Who are the next batters in line is interesting..Sibley maybe has jumped ahead a bit

Resting players in an ashes test match?

That's almost the logic equivalent of skipping Saturday to be fresh for midweek training.
