In a dead rubber of a fixture ?

Dead rubber?

Would it be a dead rubber at 2-1 down with 1 to play against India? Pakistan? South Africa?

Nope it wouldn’t it would be a game to draw the series?

So why do people keep banging on about this being  a dead rubber? Is it because it doesn’t suit there agenda if we manage to actually draw this series???

Series draw is a series draw, regardless of who won the last series. Get behind the lads and support them or jog on.

As for today.

Australia aren’t having a great day, we’d probably be all out if they’d turned up.
Stokes, and denly got themselves out.
Burns still a mistake.

And Root, well, he would have gone early if Australia could catch. But for someone in the fifties and 100 balls in. That was shocking foot movement, he really should be getting that front foot moving that far in to an innings!

Root bowled 57 by Cummins. Gets dropped 3 times and still can’t get a century. Woeful

No shame in getting out to that kind of a delivery

I know there’s a big pity party for Joe Root, seemingly forever unlucky. The truth of the matter is his footwork is awful. That ball hit halfway up the stumps, Root was camped on the back foot to a pitched up ball.

Root isn’t as good as everyone thinks he is. Pietersen was many leagues above

Root's dismissals have been pretty consistent this series with him getting caught on the crease to balls he should be getting forward to.

I hope he takes a break rather the  touring NZ in October.  He has looked shattered all series and his concentration whilst batting doesn't seem to be there at all

Bairstow the career failure...how this imbecile plays over Foakes is a mystery

Never said he was unlucky and wasn't comparing him to Pieterson, but he's far from woeful.

He's facing the best bowler in the world and got a good ball. Yes he maybe should have been further forward, but people get out to good balls. Apart from you by the sound of it mate :D Get your application in for the coaching job!

Bairstow's test career is sadly finished. Was good while it lasted.

All of one year? 2016 is the only year he averaged over 40

Very poor review by Bairstow. Unfortunately a regular offender when it comes to burning one of the team's reviews.

Butler to take the gloves got the winter tests in my view.  For all the calls for Foakes to be in the side, he has looked in wretched form with the bat th is summer and an average of 27 in the CC this summer had probably flattered him.

If mitchell marsh gets runs aswell. The Aussies will have wished they told him to channel ben stokes earlier!

He’s not only swinging it both ways, he seems to be bowling a tad quicker than usual to.

nail on the head this. he's knackered and having him skipper is going to hamper his game if it carries on much longer. He's the best we have by an absolute street.

I doubt this will happen but I hope the new coach starts by grasping the nettle. Root has not failed by any means as captain but we need him at his best.

he's a diamond we(England) need to look after. Anyone else can skipper. Stuart Broad.
