Englands Test Summer - IRE + AUS
« on: July 17, 2019, 08:28:14 AM »

with the world cup over, we can move out focus to some proper cricket!

first test vs ireland and then an ashes series.

as discussed in the lions thread could be an experimental england side which id be wary of!

would like to see as many first choice as possible (minus w/c and niggles) and would go something like this:

Burns
Sibley
.......
Root
S Curran
Foakes
Ali
.......
Leach
Wood
Broad

Sam Curran at five i know will be mocked but i think he will one day be a batting all rounder such as watson. he clearly has the talent with the bat and against ireland why not give him the opportunity.

Ashes squad to be something like:

Burns
Sibley
Roy
Root
Bairstow
Buttler
Stokes
S curran
Leach
Archer
Anderson/Broad

Broad/Anderson
Wood
Vince
Foakes

I know we wont pick 15 but they're who i expect to be in squads
I dont like Vince in there but the selectors do

announcement for Ireland is apparently this afternoon so we'll see

Woakes just had one hell of a world cup, if he doesnt at least get in the Ashes squad you'd say he has been hard done by.

Personally if they play on a pitch like the last ODI, why would you even take a spinner. Take a full on seam attack, Root can chuck some pies down if needed.

Burns
Sibley
Roy
Root
Bairstow
Stokes
Buttler
S Curran
Woakes
Archer
Anderson

On drinks: Leach, Vince, Ballance, Broad.

Although Broad almost definitely will play and i bet Ballance gets yet another go

It feels like forever since we've had test cricket!, Excuse my ignorance but where exactly do Broad and Anderson sit in the pecking order these days from an English supporters point of view? With Woakes having sensational world cup and Archer touted as the next big thing, where do the old lads fit in?

I'm there for day 1 against Ireland.

I won't be as quick as others to write Broad off.

However if Ballance plays test cricket again I may take up baseball.

i certainly think broad has a place but he seems to be the most likely to be left out, based on what selectors have done previously.

I agree with the first part Jake, can't write Broad off yet. The Aussie attack worries me but we've got some great options and real pace, which we maybe haven't had for a while.

The real issue is our top three. Burns for me deserves a go, then maybe Sibley and Roy 3? Not convinced with any of that though!

I was going to query Joe Denly's selection but then I see he averages 56 in the Championship this season. The squad looks a little bit light on batting to me. I would have liked to have seen Northeast or Sibley given an opportunity.
