Sorry not sure how to post the link but for those Moeen fans on the forum...of which I am one but not sure he should be a shoe in as number 1 spinner(who can potentially get runs from number 8)  :)... There is a refreshingly honest interview in today's guardian where as usual he strips out coached media speak and talks frankly about bring out of form, his confidence levels and how that affects his game

And batting in different  positions in the test side..which he says makes it hard to get settled and to do well.

in the current side with stokes, butler and bairstow the only position he can bat I think is 8-which is where he will be.

He said before he is a batsman who bowls, but in fact he is the exact reverse in recent years, a bit like Ashley Giles, only a better batsman!!

As @six and out says, his bowling has been pretty good the last year, and the Aussies do have a few lefthanders.

His interview with the Guardian was a very good read and I agree with him that his role in this team now is as a bowler.

The selection as a whole seems to have been a conservative one - either guys with plenty of international experience or guys like Burns and Denly with a lot of county cricket behind them.

I suspect that the rather oddly timed October trip to NZ will be the opportunity for some of the younger batsmen to stake a claim

Read the other day that some including Root will sit NZ out with it not counting towards the Test Championship being a reason for it. Shame it’s not before the Ashes really, good opportunity to get some good cricket out of some of the reserves/possible first teamers.

All the journos (including the Aussie ones) reporting that Starc is missing out and it is between Siddle and Hazelwood for the last spot.

So they reckon they will line up -

Warner
Bancroft
Khawaja
Smith
Head
Wade
Paine
Cummins
Pattinson
Lyon
Hazelwood or Siddle

I'm half expecting them to go with Siddle, been here all summer so far with Essex and bowling well, used to conditions and more of an English style bowler, whoever they go for will be a test for our batsmen

Hazlewood and Starc to come in at lords

You have to look at this and think Paine's the one that should be dropped. Oh the perks of being skipper

Why?  Is Wade a better keeper than Paine?  The Aussie selector did not think so when they picked Paine over Wade, even though Wade was the first choice for Tasmania.

I completely get the argument of dropping Paine - give the gloves to Wade and it opens up a slot for another batsmen (like Labuschagne) or Mitch Marsh to balance the side and have another bowling option etc...

However the last time Wade kept he was very ropey and we have all seen how difficult it can be keeping in England where the Dukes ball swings after the stumps, plus the slope at Lords etc....

I don't think it can be underestimated how important catches behind the stumps and in the slip cordon are going to be, because i think the 2 attacks are going to find plenty of edges.

Paine is definitely a better keeper, would like to see Carey against the red ball. Paine is far from a test match standard batsman.

Woakes and Archer should have been in, Broad out for me

as expected again, broad and woakes bowled themselves into the side second time round vs Ireland.

Archer was never going to be risked for this one

I hate how we announce the team the day before, no one else does it, so why do we! wait until the toss!!!!

Is that the best pair of test match openers in England today?
