Since Root became captain, Bairstow has averaged 28 over a period of 27 tests. Truly pathetic for the supposedly second best batsman in the side.

People still defend this shower of an excuse for a team. The system is broken, we aren’t producing test players and that is not the players fault.. it’s the system.

Where are these types of players going to a)learn the game b) get recognised c) get paid to specialise .. it’s all geared from top to bottom for white ball..

Woakes not exactly looking to save the game either here... quick 35 and out.. that’s what we need.. clown

Lots of us do

In all seriousness he is far better equipped to bat higher

Which ain’t saying much with the batsmen around him but technically he is pretty sound and has experience

I read an interview with Giles where he said there needs to be a change in focus, I agree in parts but we can't lose focus on white ball or the last 4 years were pointless

Whats wrong with woakes giving it a whack? Who's to say he won't be stranded on 70 odd

It's not his job to get us out of this position those higher up should still be in!!

Blaming woakes in this situation is very senior player!!!

If we were a session further along I'd agree with you though

If we're gonna just play the blame game it still probably lies with Roy who did what he did for absolutely good reason whatsoever. From there they all tumbled...

Yep, going at a run a ball with 45 minutes to go would be silly but right now it's OK to just treat each ball on it's merits. Shutting up shop for 4 hours is bloody taxing, easier to play normally but sensibly for the time being.

And agree about Bairstow. If he was scoring runs it would be one thing but he's not scoring runs and he's missing chances like a couple of stumping yesterday.

Foakes would have taken at least one of them and he'd contribute as much with the bat.

That should be the end of Moeen's international career. Everyone loves a good trier but this experiment has run its course.

I kinda get what he was doing, to some degree.

Lyon was always the main threat, get him out of the attack, the easiest way was to make him unbowlable by going for runs and no threat.

The thing that gets me with it was the option he took, why come down the track, Roy had just  swept him for four, that was a good option.

Before anyone piles in i dont agree with what he did, it was reckless and unnecessary we were comfortable ish up to that point.

getting to lunch one down was key.

Ali and broad gone now, just jimmy and king woakes left
