Stone is now out of the next two tests https://www.skysports.com/cricket/news/12123/11779273/olly-stone-ruled-out-for-two-weeks-with-back-injury

Guess that solves the 'does Archer play?' narrative

If archer does play which looks now like he’s gonna have to...he will only be able to bowl him in short spells

Root has followed the same path as other captains, bowling our players into the ground...some sympathy as we leak far too many runs....but someone is going to have to do the donkey work.

Is that bowler Leach or is there anyone else?

Not convinced Woakes is totally fit myself

so just how do we get steve smith out?

we seem to have fairly good plans to everyone else.

@Buzz noticed jofra bowling round the wicket to the glos 2s righties, does this mean that we have a new theory?

i said on there the other day something like this may work as he seems to hit in the air behind square of bouncers a fair amount:

round the wicket bowling

leg slip, short fine leg, short leg and a man out at deep forward square leg.

anyone got any other ideas?

Sounds like bodyline-lite. I guess Steve Smith really is Bradman reincarnated

Eh up going back a few decades here  ;)

In the ashes series before this one over here the movement did for the Aussies

It might do us too but I think seaming wickets are the only way to go

Root said lords v Ireland was ‘substandard wicket’

We might need the same again and tough luck our batsmen. Not exactly our strength batting anyway is it?

Probably Sunday but most of us would predict (accurately) that it will be Leach in for Moen and Archer for Anderson. The rest of the squad will be exactly as it was for the first match.

Last time Jofra played against Australia he bloodied your keeper... some would argue the semi result was more emphatic..

nice this selective memory.....

(i know we got d1ck3d at edgbaston last week before anyone points it out)

He won’t be playing against a bunch of nobody 2nd ix players though. Don’t get me wrong I predicted way back when bbl was being played he should be selected for the Ashes. When your all rounder is your fastest bowler you need to get someone who can bowl some heat.

Alex Carey isn't a nobody second XI hes arguably your best keeper batsmen

i do think Jofra will give the hurry up and will probably create wickets at the other end too

Yes I agree at the moment he is our best But Jofra never got Carey out. Just a love tap on the chin. I was referring to the nobody 2nd ix team that everyone seems to be getting excited about Jofra taking 6 wickets against.

Got to remember getting wickets and England’s bowling isn’t the weak link. Jofra is a fantastic bowler albeit so far only in white ball cricket for England and doesn’t have much red ball cricket recently to fall back on. He is the best option now Anderson is certainly out and I hope he adapts to test cricket as well as he did to international white ball cricket.

Still feel the selectors need to be brave and pick some inform championship batsmen such as Sibley to open as well as replace Bairstow with Foakes. As much as that most likely means Denly misses out and as a Kent fan I don’t want that and also feel he has been unlucky in Test cricket so far. Run out by root against Ireland and due to the ball change got a swinging nut when looking good in the last test. Did ok in the WI as well without getting a big score.

Let’s hope maybe Smith treads on a ball in the outfield or the Aussies start playing football as a warm up and rolls an ankle as looks like the only way to get rid of him from the last test

You are right about Bairstow. He is Australia’s bunny. Has been since Johnson scared the living crap out of him
