And yet most of these are lauded as great test batsmen

Stokes
Bairstow
Buttler

Even ali has been said to be top six on here....

Roy.....

This is abject from England- with batting efforts like this, you don’t deserve to win the Ashes.

There’s 6 or 7 batters and some coaching staff who need to take a good long look at themselves for the money they are being paid - and take a little pride in the cross of St George.

Some of these openers like Robson who scrabbled  an average of 30 and were discarded aren’t looking so bad now.

There has to be a better top 3 in England than this - sort it out ECB, Root, Thorpe, Baylis and Smith. You are f*cking embarrassing yourselves!

Root hasn’t managed his workload at all

It was always on the cards - his speeds have dropped drastically

Yes...because it’s impossible to bowl that quick for lengthy spells , Root has no idea what he is doing

I hope..I say hope...this test match results a a big rethink of how to get our best 11 long form cricketers in for the future

Totally agree with everyone it’s just not good enough

That sums up our say

Marnus given not out

Correctly reviewed by root but it was a no ball

Umps misses one there but they have been fairly good this test

Given what happened in the WI, and vs Ireland, the bigger surprise is that people are still surprised at these batting collapses.

I know selection is always a hot topic but surly after this series or maybe even after this test the team card needs to be something like

Burns
*
*
Root
*
Stokes
*
*
Archer
Broad
Leech

6 I think deserve their places the other 5 not sure at all. My personal view is that Bairstow is not the best keeper and his batting in test cricket is down year on year. Butler just isn’t a red ball player, neither is Roy. Yes butler had a decent series a while back but has a very average red ball batting average and hardly plays red ball ever prior to his test appearances. Denly has faired ok without a big score behind him but seems to look better than most but possibly is out of his depth having played most of his very long and decent red ball career in Div 2.

Surely we do not have to have our ODI side as our test side!!!!

ENG should look for another 5 year plan to sort out the Test side. There is plenty of talent to groom and build an exciting Test team. What was done with white ball can be repeated again, I see no problem with that. Also, they need to groom a new captain - someone young with lot of potential - in the style of Graeme Smith.
