I guess the question is why can't they apply themselves like that all the time?

Still say it's Australia's to lose, but if Stokes and Root can see the majority of the morning out and build a partnership then who knows

Doesn’t seem to be that ‘damn hard’ for other test batsmen.... Smith and  Labuschagne for example

For once in my life it feels like Boycott’s talking a whole lot of sense

Ones a class above and the other has played a pile of red ball cricket recently.

Can’t see the cricket only what is on BBC text, we have got a punchers chance tommorow and only that

But it’s how we have scored the runs, graft and leaving the ball does pay off in the long form

@SOULMAN1012 had Denly still in the CBF selection panel he got a score and guts it out.

We can only get better by picking those who can adapt between formats.

Playing red ball before test cricket? That’s a novelty isn’t it!

Test is all about a) being good enough and b) adapting ones your weaknesses are found out.

Marnus hasn’t had a weakness discovered yet. See how he gets on when one is found. But for now he seems a pretty decent player.

Smith was nowhere near the player he was now, he’s adopted and improved and learnt what he needs to do in his style.

Burns was looking good earlier this series, but Aussies seem to have exploited a weakness, if he can find a way round thy he can be around a while.

Stokes has improve ten fold, he’s a much better test batsman now than he ever was. He’s adapted. Let’s hope his average goes up to show that. As he’s much better than the 35 he’s currently averaging.

Hopefully root has come out fo this bad spot. See if he scores runs rest of series, if he does he’ll be captain a while.
If this is the only
Score he gets, be interesting if he steps down or is sacked as we need him to score runs and his weakness currently is being captain.

Time and time again for the past 4 years we are 30 odd for 3. Wake up and smell the coffee that this is not a 'its hard' problem

New ball not doing a lot at all, think England have a very good chance of chasing this
