And yet most of these are lauded as great test batsmen

Stokes
Bairstow
Buttler

Even ali has been said to be top six on here....

Roy.....
Hales ...

Dude, keep bashing stokes. Everytime you do he goes big.
Last time you said he shouldn’t be in the side he got his double Ton against SA. Lol

Uh that's utterly heartbreaking.
But that is easily the best test innings I've ever seen.

Atleast the series is alive, and right now I can't bring myself to be critical of the Aussie lads, batted through the worst of the conditions, and then had to bowl in the baking sun for the best part of two days, which I'm sure contributed to a few skill errors late. On to the next one, with our best player back and everything to play for.

Test cricket is alive and well.

Also thank God Paine used that awful review and that misfield from Lyon for the runout

Superb from Stokes not much else you can say about him or the innings he just played. Confirmed himself as a world class all rounder today.

As for Butler & Woakes, well Butler just isn’t that match quality in current form, woakes and YJB 50/50 if they should keep there places, if Anderson is for he has to come in and woakes will be the dropped player. YJB just maybe done enough but still on the way down

How is Stokes able to pull out these performances? Why is he so mentally strong? Is he physically better than rest of the playing field? Is he the fittest cricketer alive? Things that make you 'hmmmm'...

Didn't watch it today but heard the last 50 runs on the radio in the car....amazing!

Yes he was obviously out LBW, but the reviews had been used. They're supposed to be saved for decisions like this. That said if the shoe was on the other foot I'd be fuming!  :D

Also Leach should have been run out, but it's all ifs and buts which shouldn't distract from what sounds like one of the greatest knocks of all time!

Hopefully we learn from this and play proper test cricket moving forwards. All though funnily enough one day batting won this really today as it was Stokes only option!

Interesting last comment  :) what about Denlys 50, jack leach 1 not out in a partnership of 70 odd, roots runs

Was this not the ultimate in test match cricket where defence was just as important in our second innings?

I was there today and can safely say that’s the best day of test cricket and individual innings I’ve seen

Seen Ben Stokes live 3 times
120* v Aus Perth 2013
258 v SA Cape Town 2016
135* v Aus Headingley 2019

Could say I’m his lucky charm!

Joel Wilson, you coward.

Joel Wilson has been a cock up waiting to happen all series. If Paine blew the review on such a vain punt, you want to be calling him a coward really...

It was I agree, but ultimately it came down to Stokes ability to hit boundaries under pressure. Obviously the earlier part of his knock was pure test match batting, but the end was pure one day stuff really.

On the radio Cook was saying if it was him and a number 11 they'd have had no chance, as he couldn't have scored the runs quick enough. That was my point, it needed someone who could play that innings. Someone who had a one day skillset.

That was magnificent and thrilling!

To move forward the selectors need to take hold of their testicles and pick the right side for the next test!

Yeah....I see what you mean we are looking at the same thing from 2 different angles

I don’t see a ‘one day skillset’ . What I see is a player who can adapt to the situation regardless of what format the game is played.

It was a phenomenal innings from whatever angle you look at it and Somerset’s finest jack leach was a hero too.

Agree with @FattusCattus  on this one, we can strengthen the team.
