That was magnificent and thrilling!

To move forward the selectors need to take hold of their testicles and pick the right side for the next test!

Next test team for me...

Burns
Sibley
Root
Denly
Stokes
Bairstow
Foakes
Archer
Broad
Anderson
Leach

Woakes if Anderson isn't fit and would bat above Archer. Only alternative is to ask Denly to open and go with Pope or another  in the middle order.

Roy buttler are in danger of being dropped. Sibley and pope probably the alternatives.

Woakes May be rotated if Anderson injured.

As much as people want it and keep saying it all over, I very much doubt there gonna drop bairstow for foakes.

Mainly as after winning the test, I doubt there gonna go for four changes.
May not even go for more than 2 changes. they may just move Roy down, denly up, Pope in for buttler, Anderson for woakes and leave it at that.

Yeah agree, I don’t think England will want to jettison Roy when they know he has the ability so I think him and denly will swap

Anderson must play if he is fit the only bowling place he could take is Woakes.

Jos butler had a very good 2018 but him and bairstow in the same team eventually won’t work. We need the best potential player in one of those spots- pope that is for me sooner or later. Getting foakes in is even harder much as I would like him playing

I think it will be one change if Anderson is fit. Butler given a bit more time, and bairstow who has not made a significant score for a while now more time too

I am still absolutely buzzing. Stokes was absolutely magnificent, I remember watching pietersen in 05 and thinking this guy is special. I will forever remember watching stokes drag us to a wc win and drag us from the doorstep of another 2 years without the urn. That innings was the greatest innings in any format that I can remember.

You know he's a Kiwi right?  ;)

Doing that in that situation, under that pressure and to keep Englands hopes alive...Wow, what a player.

I keep watching that switch hit. Bloody hell it's an astonishing shot

Most people will remember all the insane shots...but he applied himself and gave him time (was only 2 off his first 50 balls!!) to get comfortable before expanding his stroke play- I.e a proper test innings, played by a proper test batsman.

Joel Wilson has been a cock up waiting to happen all series. If Paine blew the review on such a vain punt, you want to be calling him a coward really...

The review is irrelevant. The chap has been so incompetent that he was afraid to give a plum lbw out. This is the pinnacle of cricket, and this guy isn't fit to umpire kids.

OK, I agree completely with you that he has had a shocking series and is a level below the rest of the ICC Panel, but the review is very pertinent - Paine threw it away on a ridiculous punt, so it wasn't available when it was needed.

I don't agree that it was stone dead either - having umpired a fair bit myself, I can well see why the ball angled in hitting Stokes as he pivoted away would be deceptive (indeed, my live reaction was that it was close but no more) - but certainly the kind of thing you'd wanna keep a review for.

As much as the batting is failing, the only change I can see is Jimmy in for Woakes.

The confidence and momentum is with this group of players now.  It is shame that there is a gap now until the next test to give the Aussies time to regroup but this is the type of result that lifts everyone

AUS have the benefit of two unscarred bowlers (starc and siddle) who can come in and replace anyone who is too shell shocked (Pattinson?) Can’t ask for a better series !
