He most definately does make Somerset first team, and has probably featured in every game. You're very wrong there I'm afraid.

8/11 with no injuries.   Its very hypothetical, but I would have expected, if everyone was available and in top gear, that Somerset would go Gregory, Brooks, Jamie O, Leach, Bess in their first choice side.  Going on pure stats, Criag has had a "better" year than Brooks, but he's not going to run through a top order the way that Jack will.

No offence taken, just think he has been far better than a whole load of nothing!!! His brother and Bess have been on loan elsewhere which suggests they value him higher.  I personally think Craig has been brought in as cover for Woakes but actually has no chance of playing.

Roy to bat 4 denly to open.

Must be a pile of angry middle order batsmen in the CC this week.

I could just about see the justification for Roy being picked to open (but didn’t agree) but where is the justification for picking him to bat in the middle order?

Other than ‘he’s better there than opening’ there is none. Madness he’s in over Pope.

I didn't quite see the justification for Denly to be in the side if he wasn't going to bat in the top 3.  In his mid-30s and with a modest FC record, he was only ever a stop gap solution to the lack of top order batsmen.  Little point having him in the squad if he isn't going to be batting higher

Roy at 4 was on the cards, Denly has always been a stop gap it seems so it’s easy for the selectors to swap them therefore not admitting Roy was not suitable test selection.

Butler and  bairstow (think we now see why he wanted the gloves so bad!) need to produce something with Pope waiting

I’d like to see Pope in, he is the best young batsman in the Country.
But England you wouldn’t think want to make too many changes...

Papers speculating Woakes 'rested' and Sam Curran favourite to get picked.

Very promising is Curran more with the bat than the ball and would take some of the workload off Broad and Archer if  picked, Woakes hasn't bowled a lot so far not sure he is fully fit.

Woakes out Overton in...

Correct call on all fronts. Woakes needs a rest and Overton is having a better season than Curran, simple...
