Woakes out Overton in...

Correct call on all fronts. Woakes needs a rest and Overton is having a better season than Curran, simple...

Yeah but Curran can drag us out of the mire lower down the order.

I would have much preferred to see Curran in.

So it's the right call to weaken both the batting and the bowling by replacing Woakes with Overton?

Curran is a better player than Overton, end of!
Form is temporary, class is permanent...

if i recall correctly Overton batted well in australia and top scored with 30 odd when were were bowled out for FA in NZ.

Curran is the future and arguably more of a batting allrounder (especially on what hes shown so far in england colours) so overton is a more like for liek swap

obviously he isnt woakes but i think he'll do well! he has also got smith out previously!

Very surprised to see Overton in the side.  A worse bat than eithrt Woakes or Curran and limited with the ball at this level.  Unless Woakes has an injury, I can't see any sense in this at all

I’ve had a look, and yep. No one predicted this swap on here.

We just aren’t seeing what the selectors see are we. Us are them that’s clueless?

initially thought Ed Smith got it right, buttler proved a good selection but more recently he seems stubborn in picking people.

Obviously there isnt a lot to choose from which is forcing his hand somewhat.

i disagree with moving roy down, he either opens or doesnt play, sibley is the only viable option i think to replace

pope is scoring plenty this season and probably should play btu hes yet another 5. unless he moves to 3/4 for surrey he'l be unlucky or we will slate smith for picking him out of position or not picking him.

that being said denly and roy could both hti 100s art OT and we'll be praising the decision.

One thing that can be said is bayliss clearly doesnt care any more and i dont think hes trusted by root and smith to make the calls that need to be.

Maybe he's just backing his players regardless and doesn't want to resort to the career ruining revolving door style of selection England favoured throughout the whole of the 90s.

The guy is going to get slated whatever he does by armchair pundits who've never experienced a days professional cricket in their life, so he's probably going to back the courage of his convictions and stick with players for a while.

Good work by England getting rid of the openers.

From 28-2 we now we wait for Smith to get 150 and Labuschagne 80 ish.
When they're both gone it will be 260-odd for 4 and the bowlers can blitz out the rest of the Aussies for under 300  ;)

We very quiet on here.

Granted, it’s rained most of day. But when it hasn’t been we’ve been very lacklustre.

Jofra down on pace, is it the weather? Is it the end he’s at? Is it a plan?

Broad seems miffed archer now his his end.

Crisp packets, no bails. It’s all about village and diva out there.

Can we discuss Labuschagne conversion rate?? Root gets some abuse for this kind of failures.......

Overtons actually looked okay this spell.
