Can we discuss Labuschagne conversion rate?? Root gets some abuse for this kind of failures.......

Overtons actually looked okay this spell.

Nah, Labuschagne is only playing his 7 or 8th test and I believe he has batted anywhere from 3 to 6 during that period.  I would like to give him a longer run and pass before I start complaining about his conversion rate, plus if you are English supporter do you really want to complain about his conversion rate, especially with Smith usually converting :D

To be fair the ball he got today probably would have sent most back to the pavilion, he was stuck with the tail through his 80 odd last game, was given out caught two hands one bounce the game before, credit where credit is due, he has been sensational.

It's probably more of a monkey off the back thing, whereas Roots conversion issues need to be addressed if he wants to be talked about with the likes of Smith, Kholi and Williamson.

Also, special mention to the umpires who didn't get a decision wrong today!

This should be the new test uniform when playing in England. Summer, you must be kidding!

And now we have Day 2. Don't see anything other than us toiling trying to get Smith out like the first two tests. Really need some more gas from Jofra as well, looks a bit ordinary without that extra pace we know he's capable of.

Except for playing without bails.

How does one decide a run out? At what point are the stumps broken?
How does the lack of bails relate to the DRS mapping for lbw calls? Is it clipping the bails for umpires call, even if the bails aren't physically there?

Shambolic that the 4th umpire sat on the rope for 2 overs whilst play carried on without bails, then all he did was run out a cap to swap for umpire Erasmus's wide brim.

Took an eternity for the heavy bails to finally arrive. Lucky there wasn't a contentious decision during this period.

Broad around the wicket to the lefties is beautiful

I just assumed it was because they didn't have any heavy bails? Otherwise they would have brought them out straight away, the bails they did bring out eventually looked like they just had some screws hastily screwed in. I'm not sure how Hawkeye works but the structure of the stumps would be a permanent unchanging factor, so it would operate as per usual.

As for deciding runouts, they could have made do with cameras and potentially a soft signal in case of inconclusive footage.

Really don't see how we can win any game if they can't figure out a way of getting Smith out...

We should add 100 and retire. That way we can get the other 10 out. Or just keep smith down the other end and bowl everything at the other end. Even Marnus is half the player this guy is.
