Standard of Gray Nicolls
« on: August 09, 2019, 05:59:02 PM »

Dear all,

I was an avid Robin Smith fan and have pretty much always had a GN bat of one sort or another. I currently use a great one from 2015, a bicentenniary bat i bought when watching england v india at lords.

However, this year they have really disappointed me.

I bought a limited edition unicef bat at a cost of £250. it was one of only 25. however, when i got it, you could see it was an old Kronos bat that had been oiled and re-stickered, the quality of the willow was terrible. i know that 25% of the retail price went to charity, but as it was a bat they were selling for around £150 tops, it seemed that the customer paid all of the charitable donation plus GN were profiting from it. i sent it back for a full refund.

Today i went to a very good cricket shop who said that they were sending back all of the gn world cup bats because the quality was not up too standard.

I think i will be leaving the GN fold and buying something like Keeley or Neon from now on.

GN are a crappy brand imo. This doesn't surprise me.

GN’s top bats are top quality, but they are guilty of using limited editions or retro editions to shift ugly or heavy clefts.

The 3 Shockwaves VKS posted on social media were stunning for 5star lite models. Agree on that not the best looking willow all the time but never seen or had a bad one. 5/6 lads use them in our team and all are decent bats

Gray Nicolls from Australia are much better quality than UK. I stopped buying them 3-4 years ago. I recently bought few of Australian ones and they are all classy.

I was also surprised that the unicef bat appeared to be just the regular Kronus shape restickered. Nothing wrong with the Kronus, mind...
