Hi guys,

Was wondering if anybody had any experience of the All Stars Cricket programme from the ECB? Whether you've volunteered or even just that your club has been involved in it.

As a club we've never had a youth team and a nearby village has a small youth setup but no adult teams so we're looking into the idea of potentially merging with them, and using the all stars programme to provide a big participation boost to hopefully drive the number of youth coming through.

I know it's too early to tell if it's leading to more kids at u11, u13 level however I was really keen to find out how clubs have found running the programme. Does it put too much pressure on the volunteers? Is it getting the club more well known in the local area?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

�Probably� the best thing the ecb has done for cricket, especially the youth. Has been a brilliant success at our club and pretty much every club I�ve spoken to. Has boosted our under 9 , 11, etc..

Have volunteered to coach in ours past couple of years, amazing initiative. The children love it.

Exercise caution.

The ECB rep will do whatever it takes to make you sign up, and then immediately pretend you don't exist as soon as he's hit his target for new clubs signed up.

They'll promise you coaching assistance, it won't materialise. They will promise you marketing and promotion assistance, it won't materialise. You've have to do everything yourself. Its a significant undertaking that takes a lot of volunteers away from other activities.

We had numerous problems with the website, which is useless, they sent the kit to the wrong address, most of the clothes were the wrong size, and a lot of the kids didn't receive their kit at all.

The suggested drills are crap, you're better off making up your own.

Its a huge amount of extra work, which is fine if you have the volunteers, but it doesn't solve the number 1 problem of teenage dropout. Having 50 6 year olds running around doesn't really benefit anyone if they all reach 13 and then give up to play fortnite.

You might consider asking what is the opportunity cost of all those manhours spent running and organising the thing.

Scary thought that Fortnite may still be a thing in 7 years time!

On a serious note, it's been great at our club as per @Byo @peplow and @Six Sixes Cricket but as we are all in the same area it may be that it depends partly on how good your county / ECB rep is.

It does involve some serious commitment in terms of volunteers but the sessions at our club have had more people attend than probably all but the most popular socials during the year and have got many more parents involved and integrated at the club too.

At the Club that I am Chairman of, we have always run training for the 5-8 age group and enter an u9 side in league and cup competitions so All Stars isn't something new in terms of what we offer as a Club

What we have found is that the marketing the ECB have put into it and the work the Board's development officers have put into going into schools and pushing cricket has made a difference in terms of increasing our numbers and also attracting players from areas we haven't traditionally reached.

I would hugely recommend that you get this up and running at your club

Bit of a generalisation about no help, that differs county to county rep dependent I imagine. Agree with drills but we alter them slightly!

Our rep has been excellent as I understand have been others in our county
