div 2 championship with Essex followed by Div 1 championship soon after.

Don't mind it too much really. If I'm reading the reports right, they only interviewed him and Kirsten? Bit weird that quite a few coaches spoke publicly about applying but either never followed up or were just ignored...

Strange if they only interviewed 2 but I'm happy with the decision. Surely if a guy has coached successfully in the County Championship in order to prove himself and also been around the England set up in that time, the reward should be the top job if deemed good enough when it's available? We should back our coaches more across all sports imo. Good luck to him!

Thre may well be a school of thought that one coach for all formats is a tough ask, you probably have read about the number of nights away from home is needed for the International calendar.
England always seem to be playing somewhere

Just like players coaches can have short stints for various franchise teams or T20 and earn a decent amount of money.

Like it or not the shorter form of the game impacts all of cricket, perhaps being a national coach does not have the X factor any longer...hence fewer names to choose from.

I read they interviewed Stewart too but he stepped aside due to the travel / time commitments required?

I am one of those fairly underwhelmed by this, but then Giles had boxed himself into a corner but publically stating his preference for an English coach to take the job.

I hear Alec Stewart stepped aside as Wheelie Bin refused his request to play 11 Surrey players in every England match.

So a new coach with a straightforward plan of improving the test team, and at last it appears we will not merge the formats ideas as
‘We want batsmen who can bat a length of time and people to fill those spaces’

At last some clear thinking that test class bowling cannot be slapped all over the place from the first over

Whatever Root may think about our style this is long overdue

Burns has shown he can sit in, Sibley has proved he can in FC games and Denly a bit as well.

The bowling is pretty good, if we adopt those ideas we could make some real progress

I’m optimistic  :)

Richard Dawson (Glammy coach, former Yorkshire and England spinner) is going to be coaching the next few lions matches.
Tresco will help with ODI batting and Trott with first class batting.
