New England Coach

When is the new England coach announced- and who do we think it might be?

For some unfathomable reason I want it to be a Brit familiar with both Tests and our County game

no idea,

Micky Arthur was apparently a front runner but hes just singed for a domestic side in SA I think.

Id like Alec Stewart or Jason Gillespie, both proven coaches and understand the English game.

Stewart didn't take the job last time because he wanted more control in players he had available, specifically Kevin Pietersen. Even with that all over he seems rather happy at Surrey.

As I said before Pak are going to regret getting rid of Mickey Arthur.

The domestic cricket set up is nowhere as professional as the UK or OZ, and Mickey did an amazing job in my opinion.

Think he would have been great for England where the players are way more professional from the off.

Then again it's the old football thing... should the players should already be at a high standard and not need coaching,  the national coach should be tactical?

HE does but the chance to coach your country and make a huge mark on the test team, dizzy seems happy at sussex too but then again he also seemed happy at yorkshire before that

I saw Mark Nicolas wants Gary Kirsten in charge, hasnt he just signed up to the blundred?

the amount of time away from home has to be a huge factor in taking this job, I would like Silverwood or Stewie for it but cant see Stewie being happy with that.

is it time to reconsider having an ODI and Test coach so that we can compete on both?

I have just read Trotts book and he wasn't very complimentary of that way but if you have the right coaches I think it would work, the squads are very different compared to then.

joking aside i think we need someone from a county to step up as they're used to dealing multi format

Kirsten was fantastic for the Indians but lacklustre for South Africa. 50/50 decision. The best coach around, for me anyway, is Stephen Fleming - but he's getting millions flip flopping through the t20 stuff.

Giles did indicate an English coach. Kirsten....correct me if I’m wrong please....is seen as a tough nut.

Is that what the test side needs, unless he is doing both tests and one dayers.

I don’t really care where the coach comes from as long as he manages to stop our top 6 being bowled by straight balls time and time again.

Call me a pessimist, but I feel underwhelmed. I’ll be thrilled if he proves me wrong.

On the plus side, at least Wheelie Bin didn’t go for Peter Moores V3.0.

having won the world cup and Giles saying there is now more emphasis on tests it seems a good time for Silverwood.

the goal..presumably...is to regain the Ashes as top priority.

im quite happy myself with Thorpe and Collingwood still involved in good roles.

the test side needs work but we seem to be getting there a bit more after this summer. South Africa don't seem the same team these days, NZ away could be tricky as we have found out before

but overall, pretty good I think
