Small mens bats?
« on: October 05, 2019, 05:34:02 PM »

Does anyone on here have any experience with the Kookaburra Small Mens size, or the Gunn and Moore Academy?  Being a bit of a shorta$$ and preferring lighter bats./pickup I was wondering if these are viable as an option for bats? Are they just too light or can you get 2.7 / 2.8 in them?  Harrows in general seem to be just too light in weight?

Thanks

Harrow also means a slightly narrower width. You’d be better off having one of the sponsors make you something to custom length and maximising width that way.

Thanks Tom, I notice that Kookaburra do a Harrow too and this seems to sit in between that and SH so wondered if it is the same width or close to the mens bats.  Fair point on having one made but wasn't looking at going overboard on price (which i will if i go custom!)

Won’t go overboard on price with a custom from me, custom doesn’t always mean ridiculously expensive. Feel free to drop me a pm with your budget and specs and I’m sure I can make something up to suit for you

Thanks Red Ink, wasn't suggesting that I don't have to go overboard, or that the bats are great value  - but when you become a member on here you suddenly crave the very finest unblemished G1+ with super light pick up etc :-) As the phrase goes - it's not you - it's me!!!  Will drop you a message anyway and thank you :-)

I had B3 make me a Harrow size with a standard men’s width short handle. It’s 2 8 and huge!

Ok it is 4mm narrower, but the middle is in the same place.. 2mm either side is nothing - if I nick one I would have nicked it with a full width bat anyway!

Thats sort of what I'm thinking.  It was more that there is a Small mens in the range for Kookaburra between Harrow and Short Handle so didn't know if anyone had bit the bullet on one.
4mm to me makes no difference (would in weight though) and may allow a slightly bigger sweetspot for a similar weight I guess, but correct me if I'm wrong on that?

I have a H4L NV in harrow that's 2.9. I used it for 2 seasons and is a great bat, mostly use it in the nets now. The width difference is so negligible you wouldn't notice. A grade 1 harrow is also about half the price of one a quarter of an inch wider.

Small men’s from kook and Gm are more suited I would say for a young tall teen rather than an adult. Your better off going with red ink and getting a decent size bat in the size and weight you want

Agree with the above from @Six Sixes Cricket - Kook Small Mens at least are a bit too twig like for adult cricket I think. Good looking bats though.

@Six Sixes Cricket @billyb - thanks and understood, you are both right and i will get the silly idea out of my head then if not really suitable.  From what you are saying they are just renamed harrows

They are longer than harrows, just no bigger in terms of size/volume of wood than a Harrow . You would be better off trying to find a light weight short handle bat

@Wazza08 , if you want to consider other brands, CA might have the answer for you.
