To be fair they now stock Gm and I think he has been fair in his reviews.

Just a quick observation but seems to be a hell of a lot of the new GM Icons on eBay with big losses already a few 808’s at £150 or less which with new season price increases is a loss of about £75-£100.
Seems the profile shape isn’t to many peoples liking

Hardly a CBF trait.

All the bats I’ve ever had from GM across the grades have been superb, I’ve left it down to the factory to select them but do specify they need to be within a certain weight range when placing the order.

The Icons look lovely, but they all seem to be super duper lightweight, around 2lb 7oz

Thanks for the plug Chris @SOULMAN1012

Here is the thing with GM's...or at least the ones I have bought.

There is a lot to like about GM bats. The stickers are great (in the main), the innovation is good, they offer lots of different price points across the grades. Overall, what a brilliant company and UK based.

However, warning!! Controversial rant coming up:

I've had GM's from Player Editions, Original LE's, Original, 909's, 808's and Signatures. I imagine that I have probably bought about 10-15 in the last 3-4 years and how many have I still got and not trying to sell (0). I want to desperately like and keep a GM but they are so hard pressed across the range. I have used them in the nets and still the response is in my opinion below average. I know that this is not a popular opinion and I'm sorry because I rate the brand so highly and I love that they are active on this forum. We are so lucky to have their insight and views. I truly appreciate their input. If I could find a GM that actually responds well I would be happy with a bat (shock) but I haven't been able to find one that performs how I want it to.

I doubt that I could even saw a GM in half because it's so bleeding hard (an attempt at self-mockery and NOT a cry for help)!

So an open challenge to any retailer or even GM themselves. Change my mind on the bats, find me a great responding GM and I'll happily buy it. I'll probably buy five knowing me. But in my quest over the past few years I haven't found one that pings how I want them to.

I loved GM when they had the original Icon bat. I would never have stopped using them but something changed.

Rant over and my apologies to GM because they are a brilliant company. I just want a bat that goes #help me.

I have to say i kind of agree with the point made by JT. I love the innovation and what they offer accross the range at such competitive prices. I have bought 7 GMs in the last couple of years: one Flare 606, one Mana 707, one Chrome 606, one Neon signature, two neon 808s and most recently one Neon Original. Not only have i found the press to be consistently very hard, but the sweet spots have been very condensed and small. The neons and mana do great in mid/high positions but the front foot drives are worthless. Similarly the chrome and flare performed great on the front foot drives but anything slightly above would give a massive shock to the hand. If only i could ask the bowler what he's gonna do before every ball and change the bat accordingly

Having been a GM FKW for the last few years i agree but disagree in some aspects. In terms of the pressing yes it is initially a little bit harder than some brands straight out of the packet. No idea why but they just are. I am also very fussy with my bats and a now a days value for money for me is far more important than looks etc. However i find with the GM Sig and 606 grades the appearance of the bats are far better than the same price points from most other brands.

In terms of actual performance i have for the past couple of years been preparing bats for quite some time before i use them, i go through a lot of bats but the ones that have stayed are nearly all GM due to the handle which for me are the best in the business, the pick up is Superb and are very well balanced but also once fully played in they are superb. They do not reach peak performance after 1 or 2 nets but do take me about 6 months. HOWEVER i net hardly ever over the winter maybe once or twice with a meet up with mates and bat for maybe an hour or two in total. When the season starts one net session a week and bat for maybe 20 mins and then matches so they do take a little while to fully open up. For me the initial work etc does pay off if you give them time. If you want to get the bat on a Fri and use on Sat then maybe they wont be for you.

I have a Noir and Neon and the middles are huge certainly not small and both offer great options for.  Front and back foot.

(I'm sure MFarank will chime in about split toes)
Ohh no mate that split toe is entirely my fault and it could happen to any bat no matter what brand. The theory about the handle is a interesting one. Maybe i will try doing what labuschagne was doing to his bat in the test match :D

My lovely Stokes sticks are far from being hard pressed. Way softer than the Noir LE I have, but even that is still softer than the couple of GNs I have.

I feel like GM might have been in a bit of a hard place with the Icon and bringing it back. I had an 808 back when it first released and remember it being a decent sized bat for the time in a usable weight of 2lb 9.5 and I think the spine running all the way down to the toe was a pretty new thing.

Now though in 2019 - Spine running into the toe isn't a new thing, in fact the fashion trend is a duckbill. Concaving seems to have gone out of fashion and what consumers can find on YouTube etc of players discussing their bats or retailers reviewing bats over the past two years is all "Full shape, no concaving, big profile, and the Icon is quite concaved (No puma of 2010 but significant) and what was a decent sized bat back then nowadays is on the smaller side. Perhaps that is what is putting people off when they receive them, hence the rush to eBay?

Also, even though i'm a fan of the stickers and think it is very classy what GM have done with the clear finish, I do feel like the original Icon colours of the black/dark grey were nicer.

@Edward Lowy , Was there ever a thought of modernising the Icon? Much like the Purist and Purist II - I appreciate the step wouldnt have been as significant but perhaps there would have been some changes?

Anyway I am lucky enough to still have a GM+ Icon in the cupboard that is still going strong - what a great bat and big for 2.11 with a superb pick up.

On the pressing - I have found GM to be a bit hard at the beginning but by god dont they turn into absolute pingers! The 808 I mentioned before became the best bat I have ever owned in its 2nd season and one of the lads at my club has had a Neon original for the last two seasons that has opened up down the grains and now goes like an absolute train. Give them a bit of time and I dont think you will find any better.  :)

Well i'm loving mine so much them seem to breed and multiply....
And so the kids love theirs too and wouldn't change right now.

Brilliant bats and value to be honest and yes take a little time to open up but so do many bats.
Just stop making the gorgeous ones that i feel compelled to buy please @Edward Lowy as it costs me a fortune especially as i'm finding i have to match them with other kit too!
