Companys selling stickers...
« on: February 23, 2010, 09:18:21 PM »

Was thinking how could companies sell their stickers and make sure that people dont try to fake their bats?

I have seen all newbery bats are stamped on the shoulder although they don't sell their stickers.
Kooks seem to have the model written on the binding although, anyone could write anything on there!

How about having a slightly modified version of the stickers for non genuine bats? Could just add a little symbol/words in the corner or something?

Whats your ideas?

m&h have sold me stickers in the past with no questions asked.

i reckon most companies could tell their own profiles and/or handle types

Yeah lets have em...

How about... Bat Passport - ID card style thing sold with every bat, detailing when it was bought, sizes, weights etc. Bit open to people forgeing them though!

Well it was either branding the bat aka TON/Newbery style or having a "tell" included on the stickers that are sold separately to the bat which would enable a trained eye to identify them when not placed on an "official" bat.

Ones that are included on the bat would be very hard to remove without damaging them as well so less chance of having them peeled off and pasted onto a non-genuine bat.

As our brand is a registered TradeMark  we could use that perhaps?

Most companies will recognise their own bats from the profiles on the bats and also the handle shape and type. I know warsop date the bat on the shoulder.
I think the best way is like bradbury, SS and hell4leather do it, embossing/stamped on the edges or shoulders. This way it cant be sanded off etc.
But there are people out there that con companies into getting stickers...

Think what were trying to avoid as budding brands is protecting the use of stickers on planks that dont represent the quality of bat we would want memebers of the public thinking its an "Ayrtek/Instinct/Tasliman/H4L/Vantage" bat.

we would recognise them as our own bats but if we sold stickers to someone who then puts it onto a bat that is of poor quality and people think its an original then the brand in question would loose face and reputation as a quaility supplier etc.

Would getting a piece of hard wood in a specific shape, and hammering it into the edge create the desired effect?

For us telling a genuine bat is easy and will supply stickers for one of our bats if we know they've bought or have sent photographic proof through.

Unfortunately just because they send a photo through or have previously bought a bat doesn't mean the stickers are going on that bat.

Someone on here told me, its easy to get stickers, take a pic of a bat in the shop and say the stickers are falling off slightly, can you have some new ones.

Wont embarass the member but for me... thats low!

would think so mate but may look a bit amateur...must be able to get hold of a metal stamp or something that would look a bit better unless the hardwood is shaped into a symbol or something and im being thick.

Yeah thast the issue at hand Tom...controlling exactly where they go and if for example a bat then pops up on ebay claiming to be an original and looks like a similar profile etc to joe public....if viewed you could look at the sticker and back track its origin and who supplied too

Definitely a big market which many brands are missing out on, fully understand why though but surely in 2010 manufactures will see the potential market. Thought about this and putting your manufacturing head on id come up with an idea which has no extra costs either to printing costs or manufacturing costs.

Have two different sticker designs even for the slightest change and that's cost ? add something like mark ( ss stamp ) on the willow extra costs. Got a couple of suggestions so far which is about the stickers and not the bat willow, so keep the stickers exactly the same for made bats or stickers to be sold separately and cut a corner off them ? just a small corner !! or again keep stickers exactly the same and add a small hologram type sticker separate on top of the original stickers for branded manufactured bats.

The holograms made only for manufactured bats and printed in bulk all on the same sheet, costs would be very very little but profits would be large. This keeps it simple for people buying bats and genuine and non genuine can be identified quickly and easily by everyone.

Some people have sheets of the MRF hologram stickers though :(

Stickers are a small market compared to bats and in my opinion certainly not one risking your brand name for. If you're selling stickers kids who want the new models will they be tempted to just replace the stickers?

That said the problem at the moment is the number of fakes coming in and the increasing quality of them.
