2 new Chase bats
« on: November 19, 2019, 04:00:46 PM »

Hi all. Thought I would share some pics of my new Chase R1 bats. The first is a standard Finback and the 2nd is a custom made bat.
So the finback is the standard mid/low profile with a butterfly cleft although the playing area is clean. Grains are tight and straight and run straight through the toe. Now the bat isn’t a big bat at all with edges peaking at 32mm but with quite a high spine, not actually measured but is a more classic shape. Nice oval handle which is quite thick. Slight duckbill toe as well which gives a very good pick up for a 2.10 bat. Performance wise it’s decent for a butterfly cleft but will need some Bola work before season starts.

The 2nd bat I asked Dan to make me to match the finback but with a higher middle and a larger bat in terms of edge size and a fairly full shape. Now it’s certainly bigger with 37mm edges at peak and a mid/high profile.  Our home track is quite quick and bouncy and as an opening bat and being shortish i prefer mid/high profiles. Now this is an uglier cleft but defiantly a better performance cleft from the off. The middle is very long and pings beautifully already with quite a soft springy feel. This bat is I would say finished slightly better than the 1st stock bat which I sourced from IJC. This one has the toe sealed for moisture protection where as the finback isn’t sealed and has no toe guard (not that I have found any toe guard stays on a bat) also the buffing is better on the custom bat.

Both are finished with last years finback stickers. I feel that both bats will perform very well once prep work has finished and for the price of £100 each I have two bats for less than most charge for G3 now a days. Dan was very easy to speak to and on the custom bat asked lots of questions on what I liked etc and the bat was ordered and made and delivered within a week.

£100? Bloody hell, what more do you need. Is the R1 a new grade for this year?

Chase bats should be way more popular than they actually are, even if the stickers are the wrong way around.

G4/ butterfly

Custom charge should be £40 and r1s are around £100 so you must have done some sweet talking to get a custom for £100 ;)

No sweet talking I just fired off an email basically saying o was impressed with quality of the finback R1 but could I have another R1 grade but tweeked to make a higher middle, duckbill toe profile and the response was “no problem just give me a call” followed up by a good old fashioned phone call for 45mins odd chatting cricket and bats in general and then on to want I wanted. Actual cost was £108 to be precise for the custom R1

They both look amazing ! You can’t beat an ugly pinger and especially for £100 it’s a no brainier, I think I may now have to enquiry myself and add a couple to the collection !

I agree, having not spent more than £200 on a bat in about the last 4 seasons you certainly get pinging bats in low price points. These both came with the clear anti scuff but you can ask for the armour tech sheets is your bothered about looks but can’t say I overly care these days all about value for money in my collection now and I have some lovely performing bats as well as some very good looking bats in my collection but all mainly G3 or G4 with 1 G2 in there

You scored some good deal with those bats.  If I was in the market I would go for the custom one also, primary reason being my reaction time being on the slow side so the contact point is mid/high.

What does the Custom tip the scales at?

2.9 bang on mate which is my preferred weight. Pick up on both is superb, not sure in my brief review I mentioned or have given enough credit to how well both are balanced for the different shapes
