2020 Gray Nicolls Oblivion Stealth
« on: November 26, 2019, 06:19:12 PM »

So I was attending a meeting today near Loughborough uni yesterday and popped in for a brief look around to kill some time at Talent cricket, be nice store and helpful staff I must say. Anyway they had most of the new ranges and tbh this one had passed me by a bit. Initially I really liked to the offcut gloves from GN but that has since passed and nothing else from the GN launch caught my eye but in the flesh the new Oblivion ticks all my boxes. Now I am a sucker for a square toe and full profile and this is spot on. Duck bill toe and very square just makes the bat look huge in your stance in my view and also these are quite big bats. This is 2.10 but when I picked it up I honestly thought 2.7 or 2.8 max the pick up is as good as any bat in my opinion, always found GN pick up quite well but this is superb.

Now it’s as I always look for a lower grade stunner in my opinion with 7 grains that are almost dead straight and run straight through the back. 37mm edges and I would say about a 60 spine with as Iv said a full profile. A small amount of marble effect towards the toe but nothing major and if anything adds some strength as the wood is a little firmer from that.

Couple of new and nice touches in my opinion, firstly the grips are much better than previous years a bit like a chevron seem super grippy but are very thin and this bat has a new sticker on top of the handle like the Aus ones but with the British flag and Robertsbridge on top, not sure is that means anything ie this was U.K. made or on all A’s can’t say I noticed until this evening. Anyway as with all GN bats Iv owned performance with an old ball is decent out the packet and will get better once played in. All in all very happy and certainly a keeper for this coming season.

Liking the look of that a lot. They’ve done well with the stickers... looks far less shouty than a lot of other GNs.

Looks good, I had a 200 drop today, again mine  looks excellent value.
‘Apparently’ grading on all bats is being done at Robertsbridge this year.
And yes the British flag is on top of all the bats

Nope this is in the “keep it bin” plus it’s hard enough to sell the quality Willow I have at the moment lol

Do winter nets started tonight and I used this bat. It’s been knocked in fully over the long winter months and used this evening. I continue to stand by I have never owned a bad GN. Middle is long and bat feels huge with the square toe. IJC stayed on there review that in Paul’s opinion its not a well balanced bat. To me it’s very good feels light and powerful and after the obligatory awful first 5 mins once I stated to remember how to move my feet & get weight into the ball it’s crunched the drives away very nicely and the middle seems very long. For a mid/high the lower few inches are dead and there was a bit of vibration through the hands but much the same with all bats.

Looks a beauty. The profile reminds me of a GN Ultimate 1000 I had a long, long, long time ago, albeit with much smaller edges.

The Oblivion Stealth is aesthetically the best looking bat GN have made for years (except for The Legend). It looks classy, rather than in your face.

2nd week of nets this evening and 2nd run out for the Stealth and must say it’s getting better and better every week. Saw a couple more of these last week when at Mr Cricket and they were pretty without being stunning looks wise as well but tapped yo very well.
For anyone looking for a lower range GN I must say this year so far been mighty impressed with this GN offering. Pick up seems to be getting lighter each week as well. Also no problems yet with the square toe which some seem to think are much weaker than the traditional rounder toe. Been tested a few times lower down and no issues as of yet.

Looks tasty but middle is waaay too high for the pitches I play on.

Always quite fancied a beefy GN but all the big ones seem to be high middle (I suppose to balance the pick up). Do GN do a low middle bat?

I prepped an Powerbow Inferno for a lad at my club recently, had a low middle and felt nice. Quite a bit of concaving, but tapped up well. It was north of 350 quid tho  :(

Powerbow is lower middle, the middle isn’t as high as the pics make out and it’s also a very long middle. I’m quite short and out home pitch is quite bouncy plus I open the batting so higher middle suits me plus aids pick up.

That's great mate. Don't get me wrong the Inferno I prepped was very nice, but was just making the point 375 quid is a lot of money for a bat I reckon. Nothing against anyone who spends that tho, I've spent it on worse things! 🤦‍♂️
