Handle care?

So just saw the clip of Marcus Labuschagne helping his new bat to perform, anyone else tried this slightly aggressive approach?  What's the bat makers views on this and any major manufacturers views too?

I've not seen it done like that before! An easier way of doing it yourself is to place the handle of the bat on a step with the toe on the ground then apply pressure/stand on it. I'll normally do this to bats after I've finished knocking them in (just because someone on here said it was a good idea!)

I'm sure I remember seeing a topic on here about a bat maker doing a demo where he put a bat in the vice and stood on the handle to show how strong they actually are. I can't for the life of me think who it was or how long ago it was posted (or if it even exists...)

Yes, I do this on a lot of sport equipment - Golf Clubs, Rackets, Fishing Rods and shoes. Helps things bed in and will also show up a manufacturing defect should one be there.  Obviously don't go overboard and try bend your bat into u-shape, I just use the bottom step of the staircase, but I quite like that rope technique.

I place the handles of 2 bats at 90 degrees to each other and apply pressure with my foot.

He is very specific about the spot where he is bending the bat. Must be something unique to his physiology. To each their own.

“The "whip" thing about a handle is an absolute myth. The handle can't rebound (for want of a better word) as the speed it would need to to add something to the shot. It does feel more forgiving though and makes a bat feel nicer to use. Maybe there is some added control as a result if a bat doesn't feel so jarring, but it's mainly about feeling nice and mentally feeling like you are timing the ball better etc”

Never heard of this before. Does it actually work?

I’d give it a go, but I’d likely snap my bat in half, and not sure it would be covered under warranty!

I do this with my new bats and have done for a while,,, I’m a fairly big lad so. Just put the bat on a small step in my house and apply gentle pressure right at the top of the handle just enough to see the handle flex i do this on both the front and back and also always do this with my match bat just before a game. I was shown it by our Pro at the time about 10 years ago as part of getting a bat match ready fo the same reasons as Ponting states in the clip as it makes the blade feel more whippy and have always done since, never to the point of putting anywhere near all my weight on it or standing on a handle in a vice as has been commented on

Not sure I'm brave enough for that, imagine it's significantly easier when you get all your bats from your sponsors!

Is it good to have flexible handle or stiff handle? On Cricket bat info review video I remember a mention about flex in the handle reducing the power in shot.
