sad and surprising, he was off the tv show but presumed they wanted a new presenter not that he was ill

RIP Headingly 81 would not of happened without him

A very sad day for England cricket and he was a certain England legend, always enjoyed his analysis on Sky Sports “The Verdict” as well had a good mix of critic and understanding of the Top level of the game he clearly loved

Sad, sad day. True legend of England cricket, Headingley 81' is for sure one of the greatest games in cricket history and would not have been possible without him.

I also always enjoyed that he told it how it was on the Cricket Debate.

RIP Bob.

Couldn’t believe it when it flashed up - must have been ill - could have been the only reason for him not being on the verdict. An incredible bowler in his day and I know he spilt opinions but I really enjoyed his views and commentary when he did it. “Brian Charles Lara” will always go down in history

Mike Atherton has posted a really good tribute to Bob Willis on The Times website - seems it was cancer and had been undergoing treatment through the summer.

I got the Botham's Ashes tape for Xmas in 1994 when I was 15 - watched it hundreds of times, his spell of bowling and Botham's performances just made me love cricket even more (most of the England cricket I'd seen on TV was pretty average being the early 90's, so seeing highlights of England being great was a treat!).

I personally loved his honesty. You can tell from what friends have written that he was a totally different character compared to what we saw on the verdict/debate. However harsh he was, he was always first to praise the players when they performed to their ability.
