Callen Cricket
« on: February 25, 2010, 09:02:43 AM »

My Aussie mate bought a custom made Callen cricket bat two weeks ago and received it yesterday. Anybody got 5 minutes to upload the pictures if I email them the pictures?

The first bat is the top of the range blade and the second was $100 and offered as a tester bat,it has a large butterfly stain on it but goes off the mallet really well.

Have emailed all pictures to Stewie so they should be up soon. Yeah they are made by Ian Callen. He set up this eco-friendly willow growing site 10 years ago and now he is starting to get some good clefts through.

Not the biggest fan of the stickers but the top bat looks pretty decent, nice clean willow! Be interested to see how the stain plays - i've heard mixed reviews on their performance.
Would like to know more about the "socio-economic and environmental intitiative" with his willow......sounds like a good selling point perhaps??

You mind must sub-consciously draw you towards the willow.......your body is obviously a human willow dowser!
I am right in thinking that despite all the science that has gone into their research, site location, willow maintenance and planting - that their envrionment and climate means the willow produced is still deemed inferior to english willow?

It is difficult to say Healesville is wine growing country near melbourne so the climate would be different there... I've not seen the willow in person so I wouldn't like to comment.  I know Fattuscattus had a OZ willow bat so maybe he could shed some light.  The 1st bat looks like a nice piece of willow though but the butterfly stain is consistent with a stoney area [Vineyard country]
