Analysis
« on: February 27, 2010, 12:45:18 PM »

Here is an analysis I have done on an imaginary piece of footage for my Sport Science A Level... can anyone see any errors or other points I could include ??

--
The batsman’s weight needs to be transferred onto the front foot whilst the off drive is being played as he is falling over slightly and losing balance once the shot has been played. When performing perfect off drive should your weight should transfer from your back foot onto your front foot whilst the shot is being played.

The batsman’s pickup of the bat in his stance is hindering him. He is pointing the bat towards second slip rather than directly behind him towards the wicket keeper, this means that his bat can’t come down in a straight line and may lead to him being bowled out more often.

He should try to reduce the amount his head moves movement as this will allow better contact with the ball to be made, and he will also be able to follow the ball out of the bowlers hand for longer.

The batsman doesn’t get a good stride down the wicket when playing on the front foot, this doesn’t allow him to move his centre of gravity forward and keep his head over the ball. This results in him hitting the ball in the air rather than keeping it on the floor.

When the shot is executed the batsman should maintain a high front elbow and his arms should create a diamond shape. This batman does not get his elbow high enough causing him to scoop the ball into the air.

Beginners can go to their local cricket club and attend training to learn the game.  The chance to shine scheme run by the ECB aims to bring cricket back to state schools, and get more children involved in the game.
Local clubs include:

The performer is currently at the performance level of the development pyramid, if he improved he could progress up the pyramid. The next step up is playing for his district and then county.
National –
Regional –
County/ Minor County
District -
Club –

The league structure in Middlesex, allows progression should a team finish in the top two of their league, were the players team to win the top division of the Middlesex Championship they would then progress into the Middlesex County League.

Cricket involves short bursts of anaerobic exercise, such as sprinting between the wickets whilst batting as well as sprinting after the ball whilst fielding.  It also offers aerobic exercise whilst bowling a long spell. Endurance and stamina are therefore improved as well as balance and hand eye coordination.

Doesn't read right. You're missing the "the" before "perfect off drive". Also you've added an unnecessary should before your weight.

He should try to reduce the amount his head moves movement

You should get rid of the word "movement".

Leo not bad mate, few typos as pointed out by tommy. What level is this for A-level? Have you done centre of gravity stuff and cognitive movements yet as this would bling it up a bit but would be obvious you had help if you haven't covered them yet lol

Leo we're doing our speech in the next few weeks, it doesn't seem too hard but mine is AS (I think - first year.) Me being the cricket nerd I am and knowing the people I'm going to be analyzing it shouldn't be too hard as I play with them and know their flaws/strengths. Just remember you're talking to someone who knows nothing about cricket so describe every detail if possible :).

I think ours is the same but not 100% sure. I think the main thing is how good is the person you're watching.

VIDEO ANALYSIS REPORT:     Liam Toohill                  DATE: Jan 2010

SESSION:

Batting:

Front Foot:

Back Foot:

Bowling: RA over, Med/Fast

OBSERVATIONS

Right Hand, head over Midd/Off stump!
Feet on Leg stump, slightly open, head level!

Head falls too off side, Out to in Bat swing, f/s lacks consistent  involvement, Bases good although loses balance at times! Strong thro leg side!

B/F inconsistent movement to line of ball, lack of F/S in shots, bases inconsistent, lack of st bat shots, very strong with xbat shots, bat swing again out to in! Strong off the body and LS shots!

R.Up: 12 paces, straight, rhythmical, accelerates thro crease, little use of arms in run up!
Bound: third stump high, h/s aligned! Midway?  Good forward lean,
BFC: Midway, top half M/W throughout, h/s aligned, slight B/L collapse, Check on VC,
FFC: Full FF contact, feet aligned, FA drives up and towards target then tucks into body, head remains level, BL drives thro slowly!
R+FT: good follow thro in st line, thro to target! Arms complete, head drives thro to target.
RECOMENDATIONS

Head to far too off side, balance!

Improve H/S lead, Straighten Bat Swing, more F/S involvement,
Improvement of head pos will lead to a better balance,

Improve H/S + BF movement to line of ball,
Create a firm base,
Improve F/S involvement, thus improving bat swing!

More use of arms in run up,
Review closely on Video Camera,
B/L to be drive thro more!
