Show off your Keeleys!
« on: January 08, 2020, 11:47:53 AM »

Hi guys,

As there seems to be a number of threads recently of new Keeley bats members have purchased - I was wondering if we could pool some snaps of Keeley branded bats (or keeley mades)

New and old all welcome be nice to see some wonderfuly crafted willow all in one place.

Heres my current two.

2lb8oz grade 2 and a 2lb11oz Pro bin G1.Both nice looking and pingers!

Here are a few I have had in the past

Grade one Root style shape Grade 1 Superior on the right (Both of which i regret selling)

Grade 2 Superior

A lovely BB pure edition

And a nice BB I had from @Buzz Which was slightly too heavy for me a lovely bat none the less

Be great to see some more!

Tour shape, with about the best grains I’ve ever owned. Was my match bat the last two seasons but might be relegated to nets and wet weather from 2020 due to a new found preferable for higher middled bats.

Here's my TK made Mighty willow Pearl. It came knocked in and with scuff sheet fitted. I am just starting to knock it on an old ball. At the moment I would say it is quite hard pressed. I think it will need some playing in to be comparable with my other (Indian made) bats. The middle is lovely but the edges and toe seem quite hard. Anyone else found this with a new TK? This bat is much higher grade than the one I actually ordered from the Mighty Willow Christmas sale, so I'm thinking it may have been sitting in a cupboard for a couple of years.

Have other people found this at all with Keeley bats?

Here’s my current two.

I’ve had a few in my time and at the risk of getting run out of the forum I’m not sure I like them!!!

It’s probably user error, they could well be a bit wasted on my level of ability but they have never been my go to bat on a Saturday afternoon.

I’m going to make a concerted effort to give them a good go at winter nets but suspect I’ll use a Hunts County or a cheap Chase come start of the season

Ah well, they're nice looking, so fine for the forum.

I would say from initial impressions that I tend to swing the bat straighter with the Keeley. Maybe this is because the handle is very well shaped and the balance good? Will try it properly at nets in a few weeks. Hard to tell from just hitting a ball on a string 😂😂, although it's definitely better than air batting.

Personally I'd say that's placebo, I think it's a load of rubbish that certain bats change your technique, with the exception of using a bat that's too heavy so your bottom hand takes over, but if you were to take a GM Keeley and B3 at the same weight your technique wouldn't change Imo

Sure, but I do think things like balance and handle shape do have an impact, especially if people don't have a firmly embedded technique. I'm talking here about a fairly subtle effect, maybe playing a leg drive where one bat goes straight through the ball, but with another bat the right hand tends to twist it round into more of a cross bat shot...

You are not alone, as I'd also love to find 'the TK one'. Maybe one day, but my cricketing years are into their 4th test match day.  :(

I’ve had three I think and they’ve all been great. The handles are perfect on them and they just seem to perform better than most.

I am a B3 convert at the moment but if the opportunity came to buy a Keeley at a decent enough price I don’t think I could let it pass.

Have had a couple and the performance has been brilliant but I'm not a fan of the handle shapes, that's why I like GM bats so much - the thicker oval handle just feels right in my hands.

I have tried, but I can't get the same feel by using two grips, tape etc.

Same boat here - picked up a few but never liked them, mainly because of the handles. Never bought the tape thing, if the handle's too thin then it's too thin, you can get the shape but not the balance. Do have a Keeley made Mongoose Cor3 with a lovely handle, needs some more use to bring the best performance out of it though I think.

On my Keeley bats I have frequently put a second binding on the bottom hand and that has done the trick, sometimes with tape underneath.

A lot like this, although it isn't a Keeley
