So I have decided to massively strip back all of my kit and start again. This is due to be basically having to much kit to choose from, mounting injuries and the fact I don’t play as much. But in normal CBF style I used this as an excuse to start searching for the perfect couple of bats and perfect set of softs and no more. Said it before but this time I actually mean it.
Anyway here is us first of my new bats that I will start the season with. Personally I had not seen hardly anything of these at all let alone ever picked one up or played with a KG bat. Believe they are Indian made and used a lot in Sri Lanka. So I came across this initially on eBay and then saw it was being sold by our very own
@Canners do sent him a message and went from there. So it’s G1 English willow and it’s light at 2.91 with 2 grips. This has a super super skinny handle which is the totally opposite of the GM bats Iv been using the last few years but initially feels very nice. It’s also a round handle which Iv not had much dealing with but I have made it semi oval with some plaster tape.
Pick up wise it’s very good, I would have thought that with such a skinny handle she would feel bottom heavy but it’s actually a very well balanced bat. Shape wise it’s the common shape at the moment of duckbill toe, mid middle and thick toe and edge. Edge wise it’s 38mm and 23mm at the toe so got some wood behind it. Toe isn’t quite square which I really like but it’s pretty close to having the sitting flat in the stance feel.
As you can see it’s very grainy and also very soft. When i received it she was quite dry so she had some bat wax applied and then I added the scuff. For the first time in a long time I’m actually using a mallet to work on toe and edges as if I just took this into winter nets I think she would suffer against the quicker bowlers without any prep work. Grains are straight and even through the back and the front and most importantly for me through the toe. Not bothered by a number of grains but I do like them to run straight through the toe ideally. Now the ping is insanely good, really flys and has a lovely soft feel that almost seems to cushion the ball when tapping it up. My gut feeling is that this could be a good time not a long time bat but I may be wrong.
Anyway enough waffle here are some pics
