Guys, this is a cricket forum I know this is a very important topic at the moment but let�s not have little arguments one everyone�s different opinions and who is buying all the toilet paper in Tesco, as someone who works within the NHS and went to university to do so I have a little insight I�d like to think, it�s dangerous because we actually know little about it at the moment, and until there is a vaccine or more development we are right to take precautions but we should still get on with life as normal, as for it effecting the season I really hope it doesn�t but only time will tell, for people 60+ it is more lethal but depends on underlying issues that person has, many 60 70 year olds can catch it and fight it

A friend of mine is actually a medical researcher based in Southampton and her area of expertise is virology, I totally agree with you that the most dangerous part is the lack of treatment and vaccination, as well as a bit of a knowledge gap around the origins of the virus. We all need to be vigilant and aware, that's indisputable, but we don't all need to pretend this is the end, it would be hubris to do so.

Cancelling international/spectator sports does make sense, but one thing I dont understand is the possibility of league cricket getting postponed/cancelled. Personally, to me it doesnt make much sense. Its not like people are going to start isolating themselves completely. Individuals can take their own call regarding participation but surely cancelling village cricket is an overkill.

I never claimed to be an expert on anything of the sort.

I also never passed comment on whether it was safe or not to play and whether or not it was the right move to cancel.

I just said it was disappointing how much misinformation is being spread such as 'if we were all vegan this wouldn't have happened' or 'we all need to snort vitamin C' to name just a couple.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that neither of the above statements are true or valid. But then again, perhaps you are one of the people that are stockpiling toilet roll that believes statements like the aforementioned.

On the spectrum of "It's just the flu bro" to "The world's going to end I need to snort Vit C and buy 400 toilet rolls" I'd like to think I'm somewhere in the middle, where everybody should be.

On a more light hearted note, will be interesting to see how much more regularly cricket clubs need to replenish their hand wash now that so many people have suddenly relearned the importance of washing their hands!

Nah, that'd be Michael Vaughan.

Surely can't see club cricket getting cancelled on a wide scale (hardly a mass participation event is it haha) but it could make it a right pain to get teams out if everyone's stuck at home in quarantine.

I've picked the perfect time to get a mild dose of the flu, so that's me inside for the next week...

We've had only 1 (indoor) net so far in 2020. Our season starts in late May so we may come out alright and see some club action this year. Lot of our umpires are in the most susceptible age group and I hope they are ok. If our umpires don't show for games, we may not have our matches. God bless our umps, it is a thankless job. They do it purely for the love of the sport and keep supporting our cricket season after season.

On a side note, not seeing panic buying or shopping although do see shelves 3/4 empty at the times I do shop.

I have been thinking about taking this season off just to find a different club or a better team. Team and leadership doesn't feel right anymore. Club dues aren't "due" for a while anyway but a lull in activity is a good time to assess things for 2020 and beyond.

I know its a joke but if people do start delaying subs and have the mentality that cricket season will be cancelled, I guess we could see the end of a few clubs.

Just had a message stating the below -

"Following the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus, the Essex and Suffolk County Boards have suspended all cricket with immediate effect in both Counties until further notice.

No League matches will be played, and no meetings will be held. Therefore the Distribution evening is also cancelled."
