GM Siren
« on: April 07, 2020, 04:24:46 PM »

Hi all, hope your all keeping well in these challenging times. So I recently took hold of a new GM. This is my first venture into the 2020 GM models. I had managed to clear out loads of bats and get down to just 4 but all this isolation and some very good deals around lately has seen that grown by a few again lol.

So this is the L540 length blade with a low middle. I would say profile/shape wise it’s quite similar to a lot of the Tendulkar shaped bats that have been about for a while now. First thing I noticed and is new to the market is the new Hex grip. Personally I’m not a fan. Feels weird to me in the hands and even more so when got gloves on. I know some seem to reckon that they offer more grip and that’s what GM state but for me it’s a no.

Handle is a lively thick oval handle and as impressed as I have been by the GN bats I had planned on using this coming season there is no better handle shape than a GM for me and really suits my single chevron grip preference. I also believe this is why for me all GM bats pick up so well due to having a thicker and probably heavier handle than a lot of others that have the thin oval/round handles these days. For a low middle bat it really does feel lovely.

Pressing wise I do agree with those who criticise GM as being to hard but for me they always ping from the off just in a different way to some other brands who press or seem softer from new. The middle is long and not just concentrated low down. By the stickers is dead but still gives a long driving area. The shape is fairly full with a little concaving. They are not the biggest bats. Edges on this one are 33mm max 24mm at toe and 19 at shoulder. The bat has a gentle bow as well. I didn’t really notice the lack of bow on the Noir and Neon bats Iv been using for the last 4 seasons.

All in all for some reason I have been more excited about a new GM than any other new bat from the 2020 range and just makes me question why I thought about moving away from GM for this coming season. I think initially nothing in the range caught my eye profile wise. What a CBF surprise I should have just stuck with what I had and had worked for me but no I sold them lol.

I have tried the hex grips, I really don't like them!

In my opinion the best shape from GM. I did chuckle at this though @SOULMAN1012, as you were adamant you had your three bats for this year. Don't think anyone actually believed that though, including you! 😂

There's worse things to spend your cash on though mate and it looks like a nice stick. Hope it goes well for you!

Signature looks like a good value.

@SOULMAN1012 , how's the ping?

Lovely looking bat! Is the toe 24mm from the center or the edge? If from the edge then whats the center like?

Ping is decent but in a GM way it’s a firm press but ball still rebounds well

No warranty on pittard gloves  if Hex Grips are to be used I don’t think the palms will last very long

Got a hex grip on my noir, so far (one net before lockdown) I quite liked it felt really grippy but not sure how long my gloves will last with it! Helped keep my top hand in control when driving and stopped bottom hand closing the face when playing cross bat shots or so it seemed to anyway

The grips definitely take a bit of getting used to. I've had to take them back off my bats as they actually start stinging my hands after a couple of minutes shadow batting which i'm doing a lot of during isolation.

Looks decent value and as with all GM's get it played in and it'll perform really well.

24mm is centre of toe, edge at toe is same as shoulder 19mm

Lovely profile. Looks good for english conditions. Is the signature just above 808 in grade?

I like the feel of the hex grip but I haven't tried it in earnest at nets yet

For a bat with such a low sweetspot isnt 19mm bit too thin for the toe? I love Gm bats as much as the next guy but ever since my neon broke last year i have been a bit vary of bats with overly thin toes. Really wish they brought the Kaha back
