If the government/ECB approve playing of games then not playing league matches because some don't want to would be farcical. Extended risks? The risk will be massively low. Sure, if you're in a high vulnerability category then you may conclude the consequences for you are too severe to take the risk, but for the population at large it would be very very low risk - which is why it would be permitted. If you're very risk averse or have a condition that makes you vulnerable then unfortunately it spoils things for you, but it shouldn't for everyone else.

Honestly.. I don't care if the league runs half a season or not, it's just amusing that some people seem to not give a crap about the risk posed to others. Sure it's 'minimal' but then it's still an increase in your risk exposure if you don't need to play. No one is saying don't play friendlies etc. League sadly will mean teams put pressure on players to play which really shouldn't be thought about. Again, why even allow the situation to arise ? Just let clubs play friendlies for what remains of the season. Those who don't care can play, those who do care can skip without pressure.. quite simple really

People point to dropping infection/death rates.. that's because we've been locked away.. give it another 3-5 weeks and then let's take another look as we have NO IDEA what it'll be like now people are mixing again regularly. It's only dropped as we've all be locked away

League cricket will only take place if the scientists, government and ECB all say that it's safe to do so. How could you criticise someone for wanting to play in that scenario? If you don't trust them that's your choice. You'll never play again if a vaccine isn't found, I take it?

If we assume the risk is as it is now then probably not. Simply not worth the chance I can pass it onto someone vulnerable (there are many who won't know they are if they've just not been diagnosed etc).

Personally though, I enjoy netting far more than I enjoy games due to the verbals and nastiness so I am not really missing playing games as I'm still able to train

Just announced there will be no promotion / relegation in West of England Premier Leagues and all feeder leagues so essentially no league cricket in the south west no matter what happens

Thanks for the news mate. Shame, I was still hoping we'd get enough cricket in that some form of promotion/relegation would stay.

How noble of you... I personally don't think anyone can be criticised for wanting to play if its safe to do so.

I suffer with asthma and have done all my life but I'm still going to play at the first opportunity.

I feel like you on one hand have said your not risk averse by talking about being 'on ops' yet then say you'll never play cricket again if the risk stays as it is. A bit contradictory to say the least.

Was what I expected to be honest, couldn’t see how they were going to make promotion and relegation work throughout the leagues.
Our landlords won’t even let us go on our ground to do any pitch work!

Scotland had any league cricket ruled out about a week ago. Still can't net up here so just hoping for some friendly games and nets before the season is over.

Yeah it's an early call but probably inevitable, was nice to have the hope to hold on to though!

Taking to its logical conclusion, we should never play cricket at all since every time we jump in our cars to get to a ground we pose a risk - albeit minimal - to other road users and pedestrians.  Probably best to play with a sponge ball from now on given the risks of a hard ball too.  The fact is that everything we do involves some form of risk.  Every time we interact socially, we can pass on viruses which could be fatal to someone.  It doesn't mean that you don't care about the risk to others.

My Club is one of those who have chosen not to reopen our nets but I have no criticism of those who will open theirs.  Likewise, when the expert advice and relevant guidance permits larger practice groups and them eventually games some will chose to return, others may wait longer.  Sometimes a little maturity to recognise that others can validly hold a different view can make a big difference

Not all feeder leagues, Wilts are still TBC as they're awaiting the next round of ECB guidance before making any firm decision (I'm on the committee). I do however expect we'll be following suit in due course unfortunately.

For what it's worth, I skipper a side in Div 2 and we'll happily play whenever we get the go ahead from the ECB. If that's 2021 then so be it - just have to follow the scientific advice .

Apologies, saw all leagues mentioned elsewhere in the statement and assumed

For what it’s worth our league has stated that if the go ahead is given to play before the middle of July one round of matches will take place with one relegation and one promotion. The exception being the EAPL that’s stated no relegation this season.

Personally I do believe the risks to playing standard league cricket are minimal but i wouldn’t pass any judgment on anyone that chose to play or not to play. we play mid level league cricket at present and maybe have 1-2 slips for the first 10 overs but only catch maybe 3 a season so getting rid of slips isn’t a bad thing lol. Seriously though if clubs can’t field a side for any reason if play is allowed I just hope no judgment is made and certainly league penalties such as fines or points deductions shouldn’t be enforced.

Our nets open from tomorrow so at least the new GM Players edition will see the sunlight in 2020

I heard that's they want to start in July put heard it's having umpire's who of a age that's the sticking point and also players are also in the risk areas are as well
