Definitely the case at our club, junior section made double in profit what the senior section lost. So much so we actually had to change the junior fee structure because it was getting embarrassing.

Any reduction in lockdown rules is all about money, whether it�s in sport, or whether it�s the reopening of shops etc. The economy is on its knees, and the government (and the Premier League) are putting economic welfare ahead of the health of the people. They would rather have players and staff get seriously ill than pay back money to Sky. It�s a disgrace.

What do you suggest they do instead? We all sit on our thumbs at home and hope a vaccine turns up? Also interested to know how being able to see 5 of your mates instead of 1 is about money.

It�s quite simple. Premier League football makes money. International cricket make money. Domestic professional cricket, doesn�t make money (so use the furlough scheme to its fullest).

As for kids cricket vs. adult cricket. Junior cricket at our club makes enough to cover the Groundsman costs. Adult cricket breaks even! With restrictions being lifted and seemingly at pace now. I wouldn�t be surprised to hear of recreational cricket in mid July... maybe

Still hoping the next phase will bring some cricket - if shops are open for a month then joined by cinemas/hairdressers etc then surely cricket will be ok!

There are wider issues about mental health and well being, but ultimately there has to be an exit strategy. No one can say how long a safe and effective vaccine will take - if we can develop one at all, there many illnesses for which we have no way of stopping them - and whether this virus will mutate so as to drop us back to square one. There are two many unknowns to be able to impelement an indefinite lock down. It is ultimately a case of managing risk. With the measures the premier league and the ECB are looking to implement, the players involved will be safer than the rest of us during lock down when we could only go out to buy food or take an hour's exercise

It doesn't surprise me the August 1st date, I don't think it is a coincidence that, that is the date the Furlough scheme changes and the Counties will probably have to start paying some of the players wages.

Also if you think about it the ECB only really have to get The Blast played to satisfy Sky's TV deal.

It also leaves the ECB to focus on getting the Tests started which I understand is taking a huge amount of work. And again this ties in with the TV deal.

As for us mortals, the government will decide our fate, the Junior vs Senior debate is a very curious one. I can see what the ECB are saying and why. But as per usual they have no clue about reality. Social distancing 50-100 colts would be interesting and who do they think are running the sessions anyways etc... etc....

Perhaps it's just my club then, but as far as I know it's the other way round for us.

I think junior/colts sections can vary dramatically from club to club.

Some clubs I have seen 150 colts of all age groups turn up regularly, where you can charge a flat fee for the season as you know you have a core base, as well as parent volunteers for coaching etc... etc...

Other clubs I have seen, struggling for numbers and therefore parents to help etc.... and having to join age groups and this can lead to less money.

Couldn't disagree more here. A reduction in lockdown is representative of the sacrifices people made to get the country into a position where this would be possible. A reduction in lockdown is possible because the numbers are continually falling and the tests that clarify the position of the country against the virus have indicated that the government can ease restrictions.

I do agree that the PL coming back is all about money. However we need an economy to come back to at the end of all of this. We will be facing the worst economic downturn for 100 years based on current predictions. So anything we can do to mitigate this, safely, in my book is worth doing.

the PL can only resume - and international cricket - because they have the financial resources to make it safe and test constantly. Domestic county cricket is very similar to lower division football in terms of funding so they have no option but to postpone it further, the money just isn't there to make it safe for everyone involved.
