Best Ground in Dorset
« on: July 31, 2020, 07:15:16 AM »

Hi all,

This is an exceptionally cheeky request for a favour from an old member who used to post a lot (under a previous account) and still lurks! Somerset CCC are currently running a twitter competition for the best ground in Dorset. I’m not fussed about the prize, I’m just keen that the beautiful ground that I call my second home is duly recognised. As such, if anyone could please spare a moment to cast a vote for Martinstown CC (or ‘Matinstown’ as they’ve spelled it!) this morning it would be gratefully appreciated, especially as I believe there are currently only about 15 votes in it!

Poll is here: https://mobile.twitter.com/SomersetCCC/status/1288891267963912192

A couple of pictures of the ground here: http://martinstown.play-cricket.com/website/web_pages/62175

Many thanks,
Mtown Down

Canford School is also a lovely ground though. I remember scoring 96 there as a 15 year old!

Blandford forum inside the Army Camp was a great ground to play and also a road

I don’t disagree - I played a 4 day festival there as a kid and it felt like being at Hogwarts! Milton Abbey is another stunning school ground which didn’t make the list and Abbotsbury CC actually won most beautiful ground in the country a number of years ago.

Some of the grounds for the other counties that have already been polled (Sidmouth in Devon and Bude in Cornwall) are on a different level though!

I’ve never had the chance to play there but I’ve heard this, and also that you need X forms of ID to be allowed in!

All these school grounds are an absolute blast from my Dorset education.
I don't remember if I played at the Blandford army ground, but I went to school in Blandford and our pitch at Bryanston was a lovely place to play.

Agreed, Bryanston is another fantastic one with the river running alongside.

Unfortunately our competition found 600 votes from nowhere in the space of a few minutes but thanks to anyone who did vote (even if it was for Canford!)

Blame the bots!

You'd love Bryanston now @Buzz - they've bought a whole store room full of Trueman and Merlin bowling machines along with their new sports centre and barely anyone uses them!

Sounds close to heaven.

Nice to hear, although I would question the ‘good lads’ part!
