Straight Bat Shot

My new Keeley
« on: August 03, 2020, 07:20:08 PM »

Evening guys,

Just thought I'd post a bat I recently purchased from Keeley Cricket. Took the plunge and travelled to Keeley Cricket, as pre arranged with Tim & Nick. I didn't have anything in mind whilst I was on the way down, however, I knew I wanted a top of the range bat, that felt good in the hands and hand a massive PING !

Well upon arriving at the farm, and after many hours I picked up this beauty. It came from Tim's "Pro bin" and he was very reluctant to sell, so I quickly slapped the cash into his hand and nearly ran out of their without saying thank you for the lovely hospitality.

It was sticker-less, however, I opted for the dark green Worx 074 stickers, as they go really well with some black grips I have in the house which I get on well with.

2lb 10.5oz (With 2 grips, stickers, face sheet and toe guard
15 ruler straight grains
No heartwood
A mid, mid-low middle
22mm toe
36mm edge
51mm spine
Duck bill shape
Very little concaving
PING = UNREAL

Unfortunately, due to an injury in the 1st game of the season (before batting) I won't be using it for a long while yet and another kick in the teeth, I've recently lost my job due to COVID, so I'll be looking to off load the bat very shortly. (I hope this is ok to say??)

But what a beauty !

Sorry to hear of your bad luck on injury and job fronts.
It would be great to hear a little more about the several hours you spent with the Keeleys - did you see their whole manufacturing process? Do they have a shop (I assume not), or just lots of bats ready to be shipped out, which you tried?

You say a 51mm spine-is that right, or is it 61mm?

Best wishes,

David

Hi David - yes only if I had a lot of time to talk about it... we arrived around 11, and left about 4 in readiness for a 4 hour drive back to sunny Wales.

They don’t have a retail shop, they have a purpose built premises. From here they’ve got a little outhouse on the end where the guys do the repairs, and alterations on the bats.  Tim has his own “workshop” where he finishes the bats from, or makes small changes to customers specs. And they have a huge warehouse bit. This is where the storage is for his pads, gloves, bags, bats etc are kept. And also his ridiculous bat all of fame, where he swaps his bats in which a professionals has requested from, for one their own sponsored bats, with signature and who owned it marked on them
He’s got at least 100 of those ranging from the very best cricketers ever to play the game to regular county players. Very impressive.
