Just wondered what peoples thoughts were on using a bat which is a few oz heavier than what they feel is their optimum weight?

I went from using a 2lbs 9oz BB in the last two seasons, to one of my own this year at 2lbs 11oz and have actually found little difference. I even think it's helped my game, as I've scored 28 (run out) in my first game, then 47 no off 36 balls last wk.

Just wondered if dead weight is as much in the head as anything?

Ive gone to a heavy bat. Its all psychological. It gets me hitting straight and gives me increased confidence if I hit off centre.

I agree tbh. I took a few bats to training yesterday to get peoples thoughts on pickup without knowing deadweights and most didn't get them right, being an Oz or two out (on the lighter side). So just made me think about dead weight and I fit was mainly psychological.

My match bat has a thick handle and plenty of wood up top, so even at 2lbs 11oz with a low middle feels nicely balanced to me. I could have got it to 2lbs 9oz by taking some out of the handle and higher up the blade, but then it would have probably picked up heavier anyway.

Tried it and hated it. Felt like I was late on pretty much everything and was inside edging a lot. Think 2lb 8 or 9oz is the sweet spot for me. Can get a lot of meat in a bat with a shortened blade at those weights as well, especially for someone like me who doesn't really play big shots very often.

I made a few of my own bats, and took a liking to one that was 2lb 11 gripped and scuffed, even though it was a couple oz heavier than what I'd normally use. I was getting on fine with it on the front foot, but pull shots in particular were going past me, or hitting high on the stickers.

Going back to a lighter bat did make a noticeable improvement. I'm happy to admit that I no longer have the muscle to swing a heavy bat.

Think it's interesting when a bat gets 'heavy' too. I wouldn't say 2lbs 11oz is heavy, even compared to using a 2lbs 9oz. But that said appreciate where you're coming from as I'm very much a front foot player, so feel it maybe helps in that regard.

I�ve got an Aus Giant that�s 3lb 5oz - yet to have a hit with it!

I don�t think dead weight has much to do with bats anymore - as long as the pick ups fine I�m happy. It could be 2.10 or 2.13 and anything beyond.

I�m going down from 2.10 to 2.8. I simply don�t need the weight as I have enough power and timing but want the ability to get the hands through as fast as possible.

Definitely noticed when I netted with a performing 2.8 that you don�t notice any difference. If you�re a hitter then go heavy a s you�re just looking to get the off centre shots safe

Heaviest I've ever used is 2.10, I just love the bat speed from a light bat. Current bat is 2.94 and I love it, but I have a range from 2.8 to 2.10 1/2.

I try to have bats as heavy as I can before I stop being able to swing it freely, which is about 2.11, maybe a bit more depending on the bat. Any heavier than that and either I can't get the hand speed I like which means things start to suffer - with a bat that's too heavy I think you have to choose between playing it late and hitting it hard, which is no good for me. Think I hit it further with a couple of ounces lighter, but with a bit of extra weight I find the mishits still go.

I had a Kooka that was 2.10/11. There is just something about the current one that feels great in the hands, and it's only slightly over 2lb9

Might of course be completely psychological, but 2lb9 works for me and lighter works for me

I currently have a 2.10 Kook.
Long handle, that is quite thick n heavy.

Feels pretty awesome in hands. Pick up and balance is great due to heavy and big handle.

I've begun to feel that bat makers have reduced the diameter of handles to needle size to reduce the weight, which creates a horrible feel in hands when you pick up a bat with 40 mm edges at 2.8 but a toothpick for handle.

I prefer I slightly heavier bat, I get a bit whipy and flicky with lighter ones so the heavier bats give me a bit more control over my hands. not much of a fan of running either

there is definitely more confidence when going over the top with a big bat.

I used a 2.11 ghost 2.0 last year and didn't notice the extra weight at all.

Switched to heavier bats many years ago and never looked back. I can handle a 2-11 under normal conditions. Against quicks, I time a ball better with a 2-10.

Any heavier and I am a little late in my cuts-pulls against quicks.

Majority of our outfields are very slow and you need power in shots to score runs. With big bats, we get good value for shots like drives down the ground.
