Has anyone started to see any 2021 stash?
« on: September 01, 2020, 08:39:42 AM »

I assume covid has mucked up all the 2020 stash and so the 2021 stuff is going to be a but if a mix.

Other than the NB stuff which has been launched in Aus, has anyone seen any other kit releases?

I can’t see much changing, stores are still full of 2020 stickered stock and for the major brands to go and change them wouldn’t make them best pleased.

Aus GN 2020/21 is out.

For UK, I really can't see much change at all, there is going to be so much stock left i would imagine

The 2021 stuff would have been ordered with overseas suppliers by the brands well in advance, many of them before lockdown. It will be difficult for them to change/cancel those orders.

The 2021 ranges will almost certainly launch as 'normal' but probably with less fanfare, and the knock on effect might be that very few retailers actually order the gear.

Jake, do you think all of this in 2020 will effect the timings of the launches??

Jake, do you think all of this in 2020 will effect the timings of the launches??

I can see most retail shops telling their reps not to bother if they try and book an appointment to get an early order in (historically some try and get orders for the following season in from retailers as early as July; Gray Nics and New Balance being the earliest usually)

I can't see how the Lords Trade show still goes ahead, but maybe someone with more current knowledge than me can confirm. With no trade show it will mean reps will have to visit their retailers individually which will take time, especially if you combine it with the above point about retailers not wanting to hear from their reps when they've got a shop full of stock.

I suspect there will be some relatively low key launches to the trade around the normal time (from now to October mostly) - but they perhaps won't go public as quickly with them, in order to give the retailers some breathing space.

Something will have to give though, like I said, most brands will have committed to 2021 ranges long ago.

Would it not be relatively simple to push 2021 ranges back though? Or have a launch early in the new year?

I have had a message from GN, they will be doing some new stuff, but are looking after their retailers who still have lots of this year's stock left after a difficult summer.

Would it not be an opportune time for companies to go back to the 2 year cycle that I seem to remember 20 years ago rather than having new kit released every year?

Interesting video from @VKS

https://youtu.be/s7IfmyjF7Kw

Basically what has already been said, most softs etc are the same as last year, some new bat models, but the big producers are looking after the struggling retailers where they can.

I’ve seen one bat that should sell by the bucket loads, something I suggested to them a year ago. Will be amazed if it’s not one of the best selling bats this/next year
