Some help with origin please
« on: September 02, 2020, 07:29:11 PM »

I’ve picked up yet another bat from eBay.

I was told it was a blank Keeely originally and I’ve no reason to disbelieve the seller.

It came with two scuff sheets on, a toe guard, loads of tape on the toe and extra thick string binding.

The binding was to thicken the skinny oval and to avoid using 2 grips and the toe protection was to avoid damage not to hide damage.

It arrived at 2lb 11oz - it’s big, great pick up and fairly concaved

Thoughts?

Stripped back it’s 2lb 9oz and I’d like to send it back to Keeley for the refurb but I’ve no idea if they would replace stickers - if they won’t it might just stay blank... it’s a looker.

Certainly looks good! Grains look pretty stunning.

Keeley should refurb it, but won’t just send out stickers I believe so it would have to go back to them. Those grains don’t need covering up though to be honest  :)

Happy to send it back to them if there is a Keeley consensus
Failing that I’ll refurb it myself

@t2ylo  see my post in your other thread - he;s had bats from loads of different sources, and his dad definately door-stepped Keeley on more than one occasion!

Thanks for the replies.

The fibre tape as a sort of old school toe protector was interesting - I used to have a plastic one 20+ years ago
Two scuffs with one standard and one full length of face again new to me
Some little cuts in side of scuff with a craft knife to help make sure they stick down I guess was new too
All in all it’s a cracking little bat with an interesting back story.
I’m fairly chuffed with it... I’ll have a hit with it later today and see if it’s magically made me any better

We all know a new bat magically makes you a better batsman, why else would we all keep buying them? 😂

So having established beyond most doubt that it’s a Keeely I thought I’d found some lovely dark green Keeley stickers for this bat

post a photo online

Alas I’ve been let down and they haven’t arrived as I hoped

I’ve contacted Keeley direct and it’s £40 for a refurb & stickers but I’ve already done the refurb...
Any other ideas welcome... otherwise it’s quite a pricey way to finish it off.

Perhaps i should have waited and send it off for a full service.

Thanks

It’s a cracker. Because of the way it had been set up it’s been well knocked in but is still in really great condition.

Well balanced, very good performance and the thicker binding on the normally skinny oval is genius.

Literally zero complaints. Well other than no stickers now!!!
