What to buy? limited budget
« on: November 04, 2020, 08:56:25 AM »

Hi all, newbie here so go easy!   As an old git who now only plays an average level of village league cricket I am on the look out for a new bat for next season. Last bat Jedi zaramax has just died. As I have two lads who play and get all the good gear (Keeley etc.) I have a limited budget.....around £130. So what's your thoughts?  Take a gamble on secondhand via Ebay?  Look for a Signature level GM or a Grade 3 in other make.
Jedi bat I had was ok, it was G3 but have to say didnt really get on with it or was that the dodgy eyesight now!  ;)

Cheers

If you can stretch your budget another £20 or so, then John at Red Ink can make you an absolute belter of a bat. It'll be G3 but his grading is very generous and the pressing is excellent.

Have sent you a message mate. More than happy to make you something up to spec for the budget you’ve specified. Let me know if you’re interested

@Six Sixes Cricket can sort you out!

At that price range, a lovely GM 606/Signature is available, which I believe is G2/3. :)

Gambled successfully many times on eBay (Also gambled MANY times), but you don't get the warranty/customer service, and also get some dodgy ropey bats as well.

Hi @LockieEP ,

Welcome to the forum.

Gm signature or 606 is ideal at that budget.

If you fancy anything else make wise, give us a shout

Cheers

Thank you.

I have been lucky in the past but as you say you are never sure what you will get!  I must confess that after 38 years of playing cricket I have never owned a G&M!  But they look decent value for money and couple of team mates use them. Of course, would love to have an M&H again like I used to...

You could probably get a cracking handle from them for £130. They might even throw a grip in too ;)

I've got a M&H Canvas and Leather bag if you want to start up again slowly.

I actually bought a G&M this season for the same reason - I had never owned one.

I got a Diamond 808 and would say that it's decent but unremarkable and will probably only ever be a net bat for me with a couple ahead of it performance wise and another on the way (more about this later). It might very well be going up for sale before the start of next season.

My recommendation would be to ignore the big brands and make use of the smaller makers on this forum. You will get more for your money with the added bonus of having the personal contact with the maker.

Thanks for the heads up on G&M....TBH on my lowly budget I am not expecting anything amazing plus it would be wasted in my hands. I keep thinking now...why did I sell my M&H a few years back when had a break for a season or two. Thanks for the other messages and offers...will have a think

I’m going to go against the grain here and look towards the Indian market, you could probably get an SS retro or Dsc for around £120, will be decent size for their weight and the SS’s especially seem to get rave reviews. One recently on cricket bat info on YouTube

For your budget, you simply can’t get better than a GM Signature imho. Uk made with quality handles and great shapes to suit all types of player.

Thank you to everyone for your advice and the direct messages offering bats etc.  I am pleased to say that Gary has sorted me out with a G2 Bellingham & Smith bat that looks a bit of a beast...well until I take it out into the middle!  Thanks again and slightly concerned I have caught the cricket bat buying bug.
